## Introduction Everyone gets a new farmhand token and the challenge level increases to 5. ## Summer ### Month 4 1a. Keegan, small fundraiser project (♦). Keegan and Alfonso work on designing the space for the book fair. (Roll 3 + 1 ♦ + 1 Alfonso = 5. Progress: 11/27.) 1b. Keegan, 3♦, challenge. Keegan talks with Alfonso about the possibility of a new artisan good: frog skin gloves. (Roll 1, so failure. No bonus token.) Alfonso is absolutely against the idea. 2a. Jane, small building project (♠). Jane and Alice work on constructing stalls in the barn. Clare provides more moral support than carpentry assistance. (Roll 5 + 1 ♠ + 1 Clare + Alice farmhand token = 8. Progress: 25/27.) 2b. Jane, 10♣, interaction with negative Violet (♠ or ♣). Violet is in the marsh! Jane confronts her to find out what she is up to. (Roll 5 + 1 ♠ – 1 Violet = 5. Need 5, so success. Violet now has a neutral opinion of Jane.) Violet’s opinion shifts after a tour and demo from Jane. She admits that the samples she tastes are not horrible. 3a. Alice, small frog project (♣). Alice shocks her siblings by working on the frogs this month instead of finishing up the barn. She evaluates the types of frogs for different culinary uses. (Roll 6 + 1 ♣ = 7. Progress: 19/27.) 3b. Alice, 5♥, challenge. Alice comes across Clare struggling to manage two big dogs that she is walking. They aren’t hers; she’s dogsitting for Kevin, who runs the local fitness center. He’s out of town right now at his niece’s wedding. Alice loves animals and tries to lend a hand with the husky Russel and the golden doodle Jenny. (Roll 1, so failure. No bonus token.) Clare doesn’t appreciate the help and insists she can handle the dogs herself. ### Month 5 1a. Keegan, small building project (♠). With Jack’s help, Keegan gets the new hinges installed and mounts fresh doors on the barn. (Roll 5 + 0 ♠ + 0 Jack = 5. Progress: 30/27. Project complete! Everyone increases their Spades ♠ stat by 1.) 1b. Keegan, Q♥, new arrival. Kevin’s ex-wife sends their teenage son Josh home with Kevin following the niece’s wedding. He’s now to live in Crestfall with his dad. Josh is associated with Hearts ♥ but has a rather sullen manner. He has an emo haircut, a skateboard, and black clothes. Kevin comes across him spray painting, “Kevin sucks!” on the side of a building and begs Keegan not to tell his dad. Keegan agrees, which earns him Josh’s good opinion, but he advises the teen not to do it again. 2a. Jane, big crop project (♠). Jane heads out to the field to water the garlic. (Roll 1, so no other modifiers matter. 1 on projects means a complication. Progress: 10/36.) It’s been months since Jane has checked on the garlic, and there is none growing. She has to replant the field. 2b. Jane, 3♠, challenge. The barn, though finished, needs some maintenance. (Roll 1, so failure. No bonus token.) Jane decides she’s just not good at dealing with barn walls. 3a. Alice, big crop project (♠). Alice gets Jack to help with the fields. (Roll 4 + 2 ♠ + 1 Jack = 7. Progress: 17/36.) Jack lays down mulch, and Alice diversifies the crops, adding onions, potatoes, and carrots to Jane’s garlic. 3b. Alice, 5♠, challenge. An invasive species threatens the crops in one of the fields. Alice attacks it with a shovel. (Roll 1, so failure. No bonus token.) The plant was covered with thorns, and now Alice is covered in scratches. ### Month 6 1a. Keegan, big crop project (♠). Keegan adds a scarecrow to the fields to keep pests away. (Roll 3 + 1 ♠ = 4. Progress: 21/36.) 1b. Keegan, 6♥, challenge. Clare hosts a networking event for local small businesses. Keegan sets up a table for the farm and mingles. (Roll 3 + 1 ♥ + Alice farmhand token = 5. Need 5, so success. Bonus token for Diamonds ♦.) Alice helps by making a prize for the raffle. 2a. Jane, small frog project (♠). Jane gets business advice from Clare for marketing frog delicacies. (Roll 4 + 2 ♣ + 1 Clare + bonus token = 8. Progress: 27/27. Project complete! Everyone increases their Clubs ♣ stat by 1.) 2b. Jane, 2♥, new big project. Jane begins planning a big outdoor art show with installations around the farm. When it is done, the farmers can invite all their friends and relatives to the grand opening. (This starts a new big Clubs ♣ and Hearts ♥ project with a target of 36. Roll 4 + 2 ♣ = 6. Progress: 6/36.) 3a. Alice, big crop project (♠). Alice and Jack remove pests from the field and reinforce fences. (Roll 6 + 2 ♠ + 1 Clare = 7. Progress 28/36.) Since he’s been helping out so much over the past half year, Jack is now officially hired. 3b. Alice, 7♠, challenge. A sullen Josh shows up at the farm and informs Alice that his dad told him to help with spreading hay and weeding. He has a neutral opinion of Alice upon meeting her. (Roll 1, so failure. No bonus token.) Josh accidentally uproots plants he wasn’t supposed to. ### Festival At the Summer Moonpie Hunt, townsfolk seek to find the most hidden moonpies. Jane prepares pies. Alice is in the group of people who hide the pies (and then clean up afterwards to make sure none stay outside rotting). Once again, Keegan enters the contest. The farmhouse is full of pies both before and after the festival. Although some of them have already met Josh, this is the first time the farmers really meet Kevin. Alice has actually seen him in the gym before, though she was oblivious to his attempts to flirt with her there. (He has a positive opinion of her.) Jane really rubs Kevin the wrong way, and he takes an immediate dislike to her. By contrast, Keegan is really great (thanks to a farmhand token from Jane.) Josh meets Jane for the first time here and is ambivalent towards her.
