The purple coloration in the sand and clay at the park comes from the presence of manganese.

Problem: The funnel straining coffee into a glass jar sticks too far down into the jar. It will get submerged soon.

Solution: Stack my four crumpet molds on top of the jar and rest the funnel atop them. Precarious but sufficient to my needs!

This rather confusing picture shows a pair of rainbow lorikeets cuddling, or technically, allopreening, which consisted mostly of gentle neck nibbles. It went on for a long time, upside down, with quiet (for lorikeet) chatter, and was very very cute.

I saw (admittedly from a distance) the garden’s Satin Bower Bird today - he seemed to be doing some maintenance on the bower and has brought along even more blue plastic things.

Today was the Winter Roost for my local birding association. So great to share some food and camaraderie while learning about this year's conservation and education efforts. And afterwards to wander the grounds and witness the antics of a pair of cactus wrens and curved-bill thrashers.

At RinCon 2025 I had a chance to facilitate a larger-scope game of A Year in Farm Valley with prompts for each player for all 12 months, 36 prompts overall. This makes the session report huge, so I’m splitting it up by season. Today I’m sharing Spring.

It's another #fermentation day. For #kombucha processing, I'm going with strawberry on the second fermentation this time. I've never tried that before, so I'm curious how it will taste. I'll also be getting another batch of whole milk #yogurt going this evening to incubate over night.
