An oldie, but Medicaid reduced a health-inclusive measure of child poverty more than all non-health related means-tested anti-poverty efforts combined. Even before the ACA.

Please don't call what RFK Jr. and Jay Bhattacharya are going to do medieval. It's not medieval. It's nothing like the Middle Ages. People in the Middle Ages were happy to try all kinds of things to not die of the plague and if you'd given them antibiotics and vaccines they would have loved it.

When we built our accessible home because our son at age three would use a wheelchair longterm for mobility, we also knew the design, including an elevator, ramps, and accessible tub, would benefit us someday.
One thing you should definitely prep for, if you are currently abled, is for you to become disabled in the next few years.
You will appreciate having made your home more accessible *before* you suddenly found it extremely hard to do anything.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) guarantees students with disabilities the right to a public education with access to specialized instruction and accommodations. Without the oversight of the Dept of Education, disabled students are at risk of losing their right to an education.

My son Rob survives & thrives at home because he has Medicaid: access to great medical care, to DME, to home aides & nurses—and home care is less expensive than institutional care. Rob is an advocate & artist, making a difference in his community. #SaveMedicaid #HCBS @littlelobbyists.bsky.social
Medicaid is the reason that my amazing disabled daughter is able to live at home with her family instead of being institutionalized in a medical facility. This is personal; it's what got me involved in health care advocacy in 2017 and it's what I will be focused on in 2025.
