Apathetically she/her, an AuDHD maker wearing many crafting hats (usually one at a time)
Having too much fun making objects out of timber that might otherwise be landfill or firewood :D

Fresh peas are Coffee's favourite toy lately. He bats and chases them, and gently picks them up in his mouth to move them from room to room.

Last week I shelled two packets, they were gone in three days and both kids asked 'where are the peas?' after they were all eaten, so this week I'm going for three packs. #freshpeaseason

Why yes I've absolutely got a thing for making bowls and dishes at around 5-7cm diameter, how did you know

Picked up a couple of tubs of green wood from an apple tree yesterday that was generously offered to me free of charge. While the pieces are a bit muddy and buggy, once I've got them chopped up on the bandsaw they have been lovely on the lathe :)

Seems especially ridiculous when the largest thing I've turned so far on the lathe is the maple plate on the bottom of this stack (about 5.5" diameter)

Usually my quantity/volume estimation is very on point, but here is a rare fail - I underestimated these green logs by a good 25% in each dimension on their auction photo, and nearly couldn't lift the bigger suckers into my van when I went to collect.

First (finished, not destroyed by accident) bowl shaped objects I've made on a lathe. I've played with spindles for table legs before but not really hollowed anything out. Made from scraps of European Oak, American Black Walnut and some sort of Messmate eucalypt.

I'm rubbish at carving but it's so fun :) Partly finished tiny wooden spoon, being made from some kind of oak branch that fell from a tree down beyond my backyard in the winter.

Went with the kids, to down behind the house into the reserve to find a greenish fallen tree branch suitable for small carvings.

One of my cats keeps chewing on the end of this short branch we brought back 🤷‍♀️

I've got a large luggage allowance going home to NZ, but I'm still hoping I've estimated correctly as the scales went with the movers before I packed them 😬

14 is going to be SO happy when his enormous beanbag arrives. It's the one thing he was super sad to leave behind in the first move

The way that one IKEA Raskög and two of its baby brothers, complete with cutting board tops, fit exactly into a medium storage box is tripping me out (yes, it's getting late.)

Today I'm making a couple of small workshop wall shelf units. The ply I'm using is from a bundle of offcuts I bought from a local kitchen maker. There's some flaws etc but it's still much nicer than hardware store ply, cheaper, and I didn't need to wrangle with a full sheet.

Kid2 finally finished his social studies assignment (construct one each of Maori and European 'artifacts' from the 18th century, and label as though for an exhibit). He swears that they need a high level of detail despite it being a two week, year 7 assignment? :-/

I was so happy with the woodworking school course that I'm booking in for another one next year (on wood bending).
