Styx is #1 today in 1979 with “Babe” — a song Dennis DeYoung wrote as a surprise for his wife’s birthday.
“It was never supposed to be a Styx song,” he said, but at the party, “everyone said, ‘Jesus, that’s a great song. .. I played it for the guys and they said, ‘Okay.’”
