Spent a fantastic hour in conversation with @sophiegilbert.bsky.social on C-Span discussing her insightful book, Girl On Girl, charting 1990s-2010 media misogyny.

As a media critic I covered much of this at the time, so I'm thrilled she revisited it all for meaning and impact on Millennial women.

Yep. I keep stepping away again for days/week at a time. I can't compartmentalize the way I did my whole life until 2020. Before, when I was able to absorb trauma and "not feel it" in order to do my journalism and activism, I was mega-productive. But it took a psychic toll I'm still paying back.

What a pleasure to be able to stump for a truly funny candidate with an excellent policy agenda. Too often the latter is wrapped in "eat your vegetables" messaging, but Mamdani has perfect comic timing.

Humor helps so much in reaching people, esp. folks who've checked out of traditional politics.

That's not how ratings -- or the corruptive influences of media consolidation over content -- work. CBS/Paramount did this after the Skydance merger that Trump had authority over.

Not supporting Colbert during the remainder of his time on wouldn't influence NBC/ABC to cancel Seth or the Jimmies.

That's short-sighted. We have many months of Colbert on air to make any joke, lob any critique, he wants with no fear of repercussions. It would be foolish to not support his satire - and his writers' savvy, hilarious work - while we still have it.

The message is stronger if you exit when he does.
