If you can send me pages that have broken links that would be useful. I’ve checked those on my staff info and on the history and heritage page, but will take longer to check cross references between book reviews
jennycromwell.bsky.social
I thought we’d already corrected all the broken hyperlinks when we moved to a new website. I’ll check it out.
You can also message me / email me directly about these things.

Still, there's something inherently violent even about dice rolls. It's like every time you cast a die, something disappears. Some alternative ending, or an entirely different world...

We have a cover for Ancient Egypt in Video Games! Out either late 2025 or early 2026 - will post a link with contents once it’s up on the DeGruyter website.
I’m very excited that this is soon out in the world!

If you’ve been curious about what I mean when I talk about using history in “non-historical” games, then this design diary I wrote about Amberspire will give some insights.

It’s about finding inspiration in the tension and meeting of micro and macro history

Other than food and drink? There’s an arcade in Nørrebro (I think), that I’ve not been to but is recommended. Tivoli at nights is fun.

Thanks!
I’d thought about doing something autoethnographic about the process and zines have taken that role. I’d like to write something up about the process as well.

(And if you ask why the Battle of Qadesh - my initial idea was on a different topic and much much bigger in scope, but I needed to reduce the ambition, esp for my first time writing a game, and this battle is one of the best evidenced and studied events in ancient Egyptian history)

The process of zine-making has been great for getting to the core of the question and thinking about what’s essential for me, so now they’re also a part of the research process, as well as a fun little means of communication.

I’ve slowly been writing a TTRPG based on the Battle of Qadesh (Egyptians v Hittites).
I’m interested in game-making-as-research-process, so have been recording my questions, led by the requirements of the game.
Inspired by @florencesn.bsky.social I’ve been distilling these into mini zines.

I’m constantly asking my HoD to email the dept when we have new staff so that everybody knows - otherwise most staff don’t even know who’s joined (and that’s happened with new permanent staff as well as temporary hires). I don’t get how this is the one thing that seems to fall through the cracks

Apparently Nintendo and Epic Games are lobbying against the Stop Killing Games movement because they want Games to be licenses not property

So you KNOW the Stop Killing Games Movement is onto something

I would be grateful for your help! I agreed to write an overview of political studies in digital games for the @akgwds.bsky.social. Apart from usual suspects (Bevc and Sicart), I find extremely little. Which (of your) texts do you think I should definitely consider? #GameStudies #PoliticalStudie

They’ve inspired me to reconsider what my own mini zones look like and to use them to record parts of my game research (ttrpg designing at the minute)

If you’re lucky enough to meet @florencesn.bsky.social at a conference, or wherever, make sure to grab one of their zines. Great little pieces of research communication and great for thinking about how you distill info/work.
