When making a comic for example, you find yourself in deep water a lot. That scene you had an idea for? You don't really know how to block it out, how to make it come to life. So you research, you think, you work. AI bros think just having the idea is the thing. It's barely the entry point.

This is a fundamental realisation that it took me years to come to.

The enjoyment of art comes from the countless hidden decisions that were made slowly, which you as an audience enjoy quickly.

The speed of consumption renders the craft invisible, magical.

Creation at speed can’t do this.

Can’t find it now, but someone clarified my thinking on generative AI by saying it’s about the number of choices going into a creative work
Even a fine-tuned prompt involves orders of magnitude fewer choices vs writing a short story, painting a little picture, etc etc
The choices are the creativity
