🌱 When a root cell undergoes symmetric division, are the daughter cells actually identical? By combining live-cell imaging and scRNAseq we discovered a new cell state with uneven BR activity. Read our full paper in Cell: doi.org/10.1016/j.ce... @nvukas.bsky.social @trevormnolan.bsky.social

Using a GFP insertional mutagenesis approach, we generated a partially functional GFP-tagged BAK1 to demonstrate that, following Pep1 elicitation, BAK1 and PEPR1 are endocytosed together with similar dynamics.

🌱💡 Computational modeling and genetic experiments confirm that this asymmetry optimizes root growth, ensuring robust meristem function. @wabniklab.bsky.social
jennyrussinova.bsky.social
🧩 What's behind this asymmetry? Intrinsic cell polarity! Polar-localized OPS-family proteins sequester ATSK kinases, selectively boosting BR signaling in the upper daughter cell.
jennyrussinova.bsky.social
📸After division, daughter cells show surprising differences: one rapidly reactivates BR signaling, while the other enhances hormone biosynthesis. This division-of-labor strategy circumvents feedback loops that would normally suppress hormone production.
jennyrussinova.bsky.social
🧬 Brassinosteroid (BR) signaling dynamically fluctuates across the cell cycle, peaking during the G1 phase and sharply declining during mitosis.

So happy to see this published! @emmanuellebayer.bsky.social and @yvonjaillais.bsky.social labs congratulations👏🌱! Thanks for including us!

Great collaboration with @yvonjaillais.bsky.social 🌱 Plants use membrane contact sites (MCS) for cell-to-cell signaling!
➡️ MCTP tethers & PI4P regulate ER-PM contacts in plasmodesmata, impacting trafficking.
➡️ MCS roles span intra- and intercellular communication.

Plasmodesmata act as unconventional membrane contact sites regulating intercellular molecular exchange in plants
Plant intercellular communication is regulated via tubular ER-PM membrane contact through PI4P and MCTP protein tethers.
