No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It’s not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there’ll be
No more turning away

Funny how basic airborne infection controls (masking, HEPAs, window cracked 2cm) are framed as a "burden," while the burden of being repeatedly exposed to Covid is dismissed as anxiety & goes unacknowledged

I cannot stress enough that homelessness is caused by policy levers primarily at the provincial level.

And AMO's new report shows it: homelessness in Ontario rose 8% last year, with 85,000 people becoming homeless. 20,000 were youth and children.

Horrifying.

Shame on Chief Betts! Factual clarification is appropriate - but, repeated and derogatory personal characterizations and assumptions about an elected official's motives, integrity, or beliefs are not. Budget debate and scrutiny are core responsibilities of Council, not evidence of bias or bad faith.
Betts made the accusations in a letter sent to all of council, the city clerk, CAO and police board chair. “Questioning of a police budget is not anti-police, reckless, or dishonourable,” Riel responded. “Suggesting otherwise is an attempt to intimidate elected officials from doing their jobs."

In a Jan. 9 letter, Chief Stu Betts says statements by Coun. Keith Riel during budget talks last year discredit the work of the police board.

Fact check: The flu, RSV and COVID are spread primarily through the air. Ventilation, masking and staying home when sick matter much more than Clorox wipes.

It seems hopeless when we have Insta 'health influencers' with 1M+ followers spreading droplet dogma

As a recovered alcoholic, I am very aware of the dangers of both denial and normalisation. They are seductive cognitive processes, and they will inevitably be your downfall unless you are very, very mindful of them. This applies to the pandemic, the environment, and politics.

SARS-CoV-2 emerged in 2019. We have learned much about it since then, but I assure you there is much left to learn. The normalisation of this virus is both premature and dangerous. A new pathogen is infecting humans and some animals; unpredictable effects are to be expected.
