I'm finding it surreal that there's broad agreement in the finance community that we are in an AI bubble. Even unapologetic boosters such as Ben Thompson of Stratechery are like, yep, obviously in a bubble. Given that much of the global economy is being propped up by AI, this should be worrying!

I referred to a mutual dependency between tech companies (nVidia, Oracle, OpenAI, Microsoft, Coreweave etc.) with circular contracts between them.
To keep stock prices high they all need each other. So not a classic bailout but companies propping each other up when bubble pops?

Don’t you sometimes think that OpenAI is making deals with all these other tech and media companies, making them interdependent by raising their stock prices, so that the total becomes ‘too big to fail’?

I agree with every word Zelda Williams says. And this at the end from OpenAI makes me want to go full Ned Ludd. Creators can’t have a blanket opt-out on copyright infringement of their work and have to fill out a form appealing to OpenAI’s mercy every time? Fuck off into the sun

OpenAI told the Guardian that content owners can flag copyright infringement using a “copyright disputes form” but that individual artists or studios cannot have a blanket opt-out. Varun Shetty, OpenAI’s head of media partnerships, said: “We’ll work with rights holders to block characters from Sora at their request and respond to takedown requests.”

No, my message is that govs are containers for power, which can be exercised brutally or w wisdom, & tech is a collection of methods that can be abused or leveraged for good.

TLDR tech and gov aren't stable categories. Validate both (like, by examining Signal's open source code) before you trust.
