Yup! Especially since the grate in question is sitting in a vat of stripper in the garage now :)

Yeah, not worried about me, definitely worried about the toddler on that front.

I hear great things about Kate’s, and — yeah, regionality will always be an issue that’s hard to overcome. This was meant to be exhaustive for my town, not for the world. :)

I’m 100% sure my friends and I are not as good as those teams, but at least half of the attendees had either culinary or sensory training so we’ve got some chops :)

If you have a Whole Foods nearby, absolutely try the Lewis Road Creamery butter, it was butter #17 for me and it knocked me back on my feet. :)

Also sorry about joining that twitter koala brigade that one time 😹😹😹

Not yet! In the intervening time we have had a Smol Bean join our family, which unsurprisingly makes hosting parties non-trivial :). We’ll do unsalted sometime soon, i imagine.

Awww someone’s widdle babbeh fewwings got hurt 😹😹😹😹

“Blood sweat and tears” oh *please*

Ha! If oracle was swedish *maybe* they could have gotten away with it. Maybe.

Its funny having a kid just how many things are different - i’ve noticed the paint on this house-original heat register cracking for years, today a chunk fell off and instead of “oh i’ll get to it” my brain went FUCK LEAD FUCK RED ALERT FUCK UNSAFE UNSAFE UNSAFE LEAD LEAD LEAD 😹
A heat register with cracking paint pulled off from the wall.

The demi-sel, i learned far too late for this party that the “aux cristaux” is available in my town but the grocery where i can get it inexplicably keeps it in the cheese case?

If you like that era, have you read Richard Stumpf’s War, Mutiny, and Revolution in the German Navy? It’s the WWI diaries of a low-ranking seaman and it is one of the most remarkable historical documents i’ve ever read.

That sounds awesome. I’ll probably need to wait a couple months on it, i’ve barely been able to read anything since my kiddo was born six months ago, bit it’s definitely going on the “once i have an attention span back” list. :)

My partner made fun of me when I was playing Horizon Zero Dawn because I had no problem running straight at the robot dinosaurs but would run away from the wild hogs before i figured out what was going on. Never trust a hog!

People sometimes try to use “ah, you eat pigs but you WON’T eat a dog” as if it’s some kind of clever gotcha, and man, I dunno, dogs usually aren’t scheming to eat us when we turn our backs as a *default*

I met a pig farmer in a bar once. I asked him what they were like. He said "Like dogs, but without the loyalty. They're really smart, but definitely never turn your back on a pig."

Wolf Among Wolves sounds great and is 100% relevant to my interests — one of my not-yet-written story ideas is a murder-mystery set in the impounded German WWI Navy fleet at Scapa Flow — and I’ll definitely be picking that up, thanks! :)

Word for World is Forest and The Recognitions are both SO GOOD
jerseyoutwest.bsky.social
Aw, shucks. Thanks :)

I bought that mug specifically for drinking from when i interviewed people in office to gauge their reactions to our very silly team. Now it’s my partner’s favorite mig because she grew up in England and West Ham was her city’s rival team and she loves it as clowning on them 😹

😹😹😹😹 i need to make more bookshelves but dont have room for them!

On this shelf, some standouts are Braiding Sweetgrass, In Defense of Looting, Marooned in Realtime, Some Desperate Glory, Murderbot, and Garner’s Modern English Usage.

You have any faves?

I miss Wegman’s. That store chain was dope.
jerseyoutwest.bsky.social
Ha! I haven’t watched the show because i have done my time in kitchens and I don’t need to be re-traumatized, but that’s an excellent joke.

“Bookshelf” 😹 that one’s just my Roman/Greek/Indian mythology, geology, and culinary history. Out of sight is a double-stacked entire wall of books, and if that one horrifies you, then this one in my office will really make you scream 😹😹😹
One of those pine plank and iron pipe shelf situations covered in disorganized stacks of books and a couple tchohkes.
jerseyoutwest.bsky.social
I had to look that up, and you know, it’s tempting.

It was a good time! We still need to do unsalted butters, maybe i should plan it before the holidays so people have the chance to figure out what they want to use for holiday baking…
jerseyoutwest.bsky.social
I drove around town to every grocery store i could think of, i figured i’d find maybe 20, 25 different butters. I was shocked there were so many available!

I got so tired of people complaining about pineapple on pizza i started saying “okay but i only eat pizza with pineapple on it” any time someone suggested a group order. It never fails to get me A Look.
