The dictator had gotten all the media companies in the hands of his loyalists in advance so that they would happily repeat his lies, and people would be afraid to say it was politically-motivated mass murder for fear of being next.

This is a well-worn playbook for historical atrocity.

And Minneapolis' Phillips neighborhood is named for Wendell Phillips, a fervent abolitionist. He was once asked why he couldn't turn down the heat in his rhetoric: why are do you always have to be so firery? Phillips' reply: "Yes, I'm on fire--becuase I have mountains of ice to melt!"

And that there is a triumph of medicine and progress. A group of people with an illness where they were once considered lucky to survive childhood with, now actually getting to grow to adulthood/middle age and live good lives. And it happened in our lifetime.

In fact, I had to look this up after the call, the treatments for cystic fibrosis in the last 15-20 years have improved so much that they're still not entirely sure of what the new life expectancy is for it, because patients on it are doing so so much better and most of them haven't died yet!

And it's easier to know what to do if you understand yourself! That's what I've been struggling to do for a while.
