I’ve met an Agamemnon (adult) and Beowulf (toddler), both names raise questions for me

But let’s face it we need an honourable mention for “modern woman travels to the past”. Outlander gets a bit too real for me with the murder and sexual violence, I prefer chef is magically transported to medieval Korea and becomes palace chef/king’s love interest

Bill and Ted imprinted comic “what does this person from the past make of the present” on my brain and I never recovered. Joan of Arc doing aerobics in the mall or nothing

Ministry of Time has been loitering in my TBR pile for a long time even though it’s about my absolute favourite trope - time travel from or to the past. Deffo a 4/5 for me. However, it did not reach the heights of El Ministerio del Tiempo

One thing that interested me, was my daughter got really into the “badgers are go” books - written today, but packed full of WW2 era language and references. She didn’t mind a bit, but obviously it had been carefully considered based on modern readers

Also it’s not just about expecting more - things like blotting paper and thimbles, and even matches, just aren’t household objects anymore, and books aren’t exactly improved by having to stop and explain what a thimble is

I read the original wind in the willows with my son and it was understandable with explanations. The Borrowers was absolutely incomprehensible, we had to give up, because the common household objects are almost universally museum pieces now.
