Here's some of his story: After being released by Tampa at age 22, he pitched in every DR summer/spring league, as well as the Independent League of Canada, before Águilas Cibaeñas selected him this September in the #LIDOM "Rookie draft" at the age of 32. Next stop: #Orioles Spring Training.

When he arrives, he'll arrive with a nickname:
"El Endiablao" (The Devilish One/The Fiery One)

He retired Jorge Mateo for the first out (a flyball off a changeup), which is a funny "old Oriole gotten out by new Oriole" until you remember Mateo is two years younger.

Rough day for some mustachioed ballplayers (Meckler) but Mengden has tossed five no-hit innings scattering a walk in a high-stakes, must win game for Gigantes.

as long as they don't throw breaking balls in MLB, he should be fine

As the long string of Angels playoff appearances and this settlement clearly illustrate:

Arte Moreno knows more about baseball than every GM and more about legal strategies than any attorney.

Posting conspiracy nonsense on social media is sadly a daily occurrence, but posting conspiracy nonsense on LinkedIn is truly deranged trend-setting. Goodness.

Dean has three MiLB options, so it's unlikely to be him.

Meckler still has an option, but it seems unclear where he is on the new FO's depth chart.

Hopefully, a trade of some kind will clear space.

Hopefully there's a trade of some kind to clear space and not just a DFA

I was front and center for her "Beauty & the Beast"* duo performance at the Gram Parsons tribute in LA twenty years ago and am still smitten.

Now the Giants won't have to rent out the Castro if they're lucky enough to host another World Series movie premiere someday.

The players forcing the teams to spend is precisely the kind of thing that isn't getting hashed out without losing months of games.

I'm not arguing for/against a floor/cap.

My only argument is that no one has the stomach for the consequences of a protracted lockout, and a cap isn't a 2-month job.
December 18, 2025 at 8:41 PM
Lockout is guaranteed.

The odds of these two entities agreeing to any significant financial restrictions or changes on a timeline that does NOT threaten the existence of the season? Infinitesimal.

They will kick the can down the road, slap one another on the back, and get back to cashing checks.
December 18, 2025 at 8:03 PM
I see the opposite.

The economic uncertainty only adds to the reluctance to "blow it all up," which is what we're talking about.

During the last lockout, negotiations began in February. So, a 2027 negotiations that end with a cap? Adios to all or most of the 2027 season. No one wants that.
December 18, 2025 at 7:53 PM
All parties are aware that a cap is the 3rd rail of CBA negotiations, & any implementation of a cap would only come after a lengthy and contentious fight that would either kill or significantly shorten the 2027 season.

Following the labor scare of 2021, few have appetite for that.

We shall see.

She missed the heyday of the 1980s and early 1990s. Could've been a Super Bowl halftime performer!
December 18, 2025 at 7:28 PM
If the owners get a hard cap, it won't be in 2027 because there won't be baseball in 2027.

I've read that there will most likely be small concessions and adjustments to the CBA, but no one has an interest in the drag-out fight it'd take to implement a salary cap.

Ownership enjoys making money.

I have Giants season tickets and cable TV, so my MLB TV recap excitedly covers all the Padres games I watched. I'd be more interested in the most-watched LIDOM or LigaArcoMX teams, tbh.
