About 60 years ago, R. Heinlein, former naval officer and SF author, pointed out that in a world of satellites and drones, a warship was so vulnerable that you might as well build a Spanish Galleon - it’s cheaper, prettier, and about as useful.

this just has me thinking about how so much of this government and the movement around it is purely a matter of aesthetics. is there a strategic reason for produce a new warship? maybe. but my hunch is that this is happening because the president thinks it will look cool.
