I’ve an emergency for an essay on eco-horror and Christmas involving supernatural or magical creatures, pointing to a pagan/folk horror past. Can’t involve ghosts but can be in any media.

It's been a rough week of burning the candle at both ends, but I've finished writing a feature length script - the first piece of creative writing I've attempted since the end of my undergrad. I've got a first draft and I'm determined to make the thing after all it's put me through!

Opening Final Draft for the first time in nearly a decade and I'm completely lost. I need to sit through a pile of YouTube tutorials before developing my notes. What a way to kill the momentum, technology...

Renovating my room (making it livable after years of being entombed by media) has led to me finding and finally sorting my old comic collection. The sickness is back. I may currently be addicted to filling in the decade-long gap via Ebay...

I'm editing a chapter on Santa Slashers and I completely forgot that I wrote a lengthy diatribe about how Santa doesnt exist. It should probably be taken for granted but its also too depressing to chop up. Good editing practice and what amuses me have come into conflict once more

Today I learned that Muscular Christianity has made a theory-based comeback. It's one of the funnier concepts i discovered during my PhD, but I can only imagine how dangerous its resurgence probably is

After sleeping off the Christmas/Boxing Day flu, I'm finally ready to get stuck into the 50th anniversary edition of Slaughterhouse-Five. No matter how many times you read it, you get something new. So it goes.

One thing I hate about reporting/research into the manosphere is that they rarely examine the influence of the mythopoetic movement. New media misogyny is a very successful rebrand of the nonsense spewed by Bly and his fellow Jungians, but is discussed as if it popped up out of nowhere

It's always fun find out that a service doesn't work after you've started paying for it. The BFI Player got me excited, only to let me down

I don't know why everyone thinks that Oz adaptation is a musical? Ariana Grande hasn't shown up once, but there's been a shit load of Nazis and violence

My research contract ended today and the last lecture of my teaching contract is in half a week. I've already started watching a boxset and destroying my fragile sleeping pattern. Welcome back to my new annual tradition in academia: unemployed in time for Christmas

We've reached that point of the night where my writing feels like it's genius, but will turn out to be over-tired and over-confident nonsense. This would be fine if it wasn't for an official report...

The Foyle Film Festival has been interesting this year so far. I haven't been able to go see everything I've wanted, but I've caught the highlights: Seven Samurai, The Way of the Dragon, and Frewaka. Unfortunately, I had to ditch Old Boy tonight as I've a pile of marking to get through

I'm watching Viy (1967) for the second time this semester to prep for tomorrow's Euro horror lecture and I'm just realising that I have to somehow jam together my loves of post-fascist Western horror and Soviet/Warsaw Pact horror in a two horror slot. It was pure hubris to think I could do it

It's genuinely hilarious that the creative team behind The Boys believe they're making punk rock art... while being bankrolled by one of the single most powerful corporations to ever exist.

After a chat about parallel releases at the Elm Street conference, I've finally done the research. Time Cut lethargically uses time travel to establish an aesthetic and literally nothing else, whereas Totally Killer dedicates to letting it bleed into every aspect of the text.
