Is it normal to applaud the First Lady for almost a full minute and for Congress people to drown out each other chanting “USA”?

One one hand, I want to be optimistic and say it hasn't gone that far. OTOH, Trump freeing the Jan 6 rioters and emboldening them further makes it hard to ignore that there seems to be a loyal army of thugs that Trump is encouraging that look like 1930 - 1940s Germany

Then true conservatives need to realign themselves away from the MAGA movement and take the hit for a few cycles that will come with it, possibly losing power for a time. A Tea Party 2.0 if you will to realign conservative interests with preservation of the principles of freedom and democracy.

I think that conversation really matters, because it's worth examining whether or not the perception that both sides are trying to govern with a desire to preserve the principles that the United States was founded on. Dispelling that notion may be the first step in restoring balance.

What party, when in control of the levers of government, has any incentive to limit its power?

If we want to talk about "how we got here", can we examine which party has laid the groundwork to undermine the checks & balances on the system for decades, waiting for an opportunity to pull the trigger?
