Dad to a four-year old and getting the same adrenaline rush when I used to spend every waking moment rock climbing, surfing, and getting rowdy.

Also someone who found the place he was meant to be in the tech space and helping others do the same.
@rbreich.bsky.social If you are still in Berkeley, I'd love to take you for a cup of coffee and pick your brain on some of the ideas from your Youtube channel and in your writing. I'm approaching this as a layman but looking for insights on where to put my energy addressing systemic problems.

In a post Trump world, I'd really like to see the American public collectively agree that people like Brad Karp don't get to walk away saying they weren't part of grift. They are enablers and rhetoric about standing up for the principles that the United States was founded on are empty promises.

I’m posting this message from a Mac client that Claude Code wrote for me. I wrote none of the code, just guided the agent along, reporting errors in the build and asking them to be fixed & requesting additional features to be added. 25 minutes on the clock since starting with an empty directory.

The lack of empathy for the impact of tariffs against Canada enacted is embarrassing as an American. This whole statement reeks of American Exceptionalism and a rejection of free market principles. Americans should begin boycotting Kentucky Bourbon in solidarity with our neighbors to the north.

It's somehow oddly comforting to me that Digg is coming back. It may just be nostalgia for a time that seemed more grounded in optimism, but I could use a bit of that these days.

It's pretty disgusting that people are saying that Zelensky should have approached Trump differently, taking a more sycophantic approach. Why is Trump treated like he has no agency or responsibility to consider his own behavior vis-a-vis what's in the best interests of the United States?

FYI already planned buyouts are next up at the @washingtonpost because they are as hamhanded at management as it looks. My assumption is they are doing this ass backwards in hopes people would leave rather than be paid out.

I feel like I just passed a major milestone. Someone on Blind called me out as "such an asshole with so many failed projects." 😱

An hour later 3 people from my team came on to argue about my status as an asshole and pointed out all the "failed projects" were big successes with the customers. 🥰

Software teams get caught in a vicious circle where the definition of done isn't documented before kicking off a project. One-off asks keep getting brought in and the finish line keeps moving, and teams lose sight of the problem they set out to solve. The dopamine hit never comes for them.

Defining "done" ahead of time is hard to teach to teams who haven't operated in that way. It requires a lot of patience, hands-on coaching, and asking and answering questions. Despite the uphill battle, I have yet to see that effort not pay off in improved velocity and developer happiness.
