It’s #Thanksgiving #Thursday in America and #HolidayRobin is a theme here, so I thought I’d post this festive American Robin. Happy T-Day y’all!

One more #headshot for Rob and Alan’s #birdoftheday— a Hudsonian Whimbrel we saw on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica recently. Cheers!

#BirdoftheDay is #Headshot, so I’ll share this Goshawk we saw at Bonnie Butte Hawkwatch a few years ago. Happy Thanksgiving!

Tomorrow is #Thanksgiving and also #Thursday so why not declare it #Thrushday? I’ll start off with a Varied Thrush. Post your #ThanksgivingThrush and Happy Holidays!

#OnTheEdge is #BirdoftheDay so here’s an American Oystecatcher on the western edge of the continent. Cheers!
November 26, 2025 at 2:12 PM
#birdoftheday is #unusualangles so I’ll contribute this Red-winged Blackbird (RWBL) displaying its epaulets as seen from above. I took this pic many years ago so don’t remember how it was I found myself at this angle.

Also while not yellow-eyed, this Long-tailed Silky-flycatcher has a very nice yellow eyering!

The alt- #birdoftheday is #yelloweyes. Here’s a Volcano Junco from the Paramo (tropical tundra?) region of Costa Rica. This was taken at above 12,000’ (4000m) elevation

At the risk of sticking out like a sore (American) thumb, I’ll add my entry to the #HolidayRobin theme: this American Robin, Turdis Migratorious (how apt!) visited my back garden last winter.

Send MOOR banding codes!
November 24, 2025 at 3:53 PM
¡Hola!
November 24, 2025 at 3:48 PM
#BirdOfTheDay today is #warbler. I might have a pic…here is a Blackpoll Warbler and an Arctic Warbler, both from a 2023 Alaska #birding trip. Cheers!
November 24, 2025 at 3:45 PM
I love using banding codes. I just received copies of a new kids birding book a friend of mine write and I was excited to see the use of banding codes extensively.

#Birding today at Fernhill Wetlands in Washington County, Oregon and saw my old friend Greg hunting by the pond edge.

Interesting! We call Ruddy Ducks “Bluebills” over here.

Da’an park is one of my favorite birding spots in the world. Close to the subway, nice hotels across the street (Rido Hotel recommended) and amazing birds. All the Malay Night-herons in different plumage, and the herons and egrets coming in to roost in the evening! Here’s a Kingfisher from Da’an

Wood lasts surprisingly well in the Arctic. Many graves are marked with wood or the more readily available whalebones or baleen.
November 23, 2025 at 5:11 PM
When we stayed in Barrow (Uqtiagvik) Alaska we could see the graveyard from our hotel room. We glassed the yard and saw a Snowy Owl perched on a gravestone. Wish i had a pic. Here’s a Snow Bunting on another grave marker in Alaska.

#birdoftheday is #Mr&Mrs so here’s one more, a recent shot from Costa Rica—Broad-billed Motmots. Not sure who’s Mr and who’s Mrs but it’s enough that they do.

Long-tailed Ducks from Barrows, Alaska #birdoftheday #mr&mrs
November 23, 2025 at 4:37 PM
#birdoftheday is #Mr&Mrs? Her’s a pair of King Eiders from Nome, Alaska. The male is showier, but the female is ruggedly handsome.
November 23, 2025 at 4:32 PM
Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme from Alan and Rob is #mottled birds marked with spots of a different color. Alt is #blurry birds blurred in motion. These two Fiery-throated hummers are too blurry to tell if they might also ne mottled. Perhaps Scalloped?
Cheers!
