I have no idea where I am going with this, it's just that this thought haven't crossed my mind before. And I am really a person who loves the idea of old franchises being revived. The idea, not the games themselves necesarily

I don't think the answer is really simple. Because I immediately look at Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, which could have been a completely unrelated IP in a way, but instead it it is a sort continuation of the Ninja Gaiden NES trilogy and to me, it makes sense playing the game, but....

This is such an interesting point I really haven't thought about before. Does naming a game part of an established franchise actually make sense, like, does it contributes to the franchise itself? Or is the name of the franchise only used for marketing purposes so it can sell to a fanbase existing?
