I think if Canada wants to have a strong cultural identity we need to go back to doing what we're best at, making the weirdest fucking TV shows you've ever seen

Reminder: you don't have to engage with AI as an instructor. You can talk about AI--even build AI literacy, if you want to call it that--and still not engage directly with a brutal, unethical, ecologically disastrous bundle of technologies. Regardless of institutional pressure, you can refuse.

oh neat we have an AI Minister who says that universities are definitely part of this hellish technoscape and we should all feel fine

Universities: we are working closely with humanities departments to deal with AI plagiarism--we understand how AI can be antithetical to creativity and critical thinking

A colleague keeps getting pride stickers ripped from their office door, in case you're wondering how provincial transphobia is affecting the perception of students. We order them in bulk now. Also seeing more Christian pamphlets left on our floor. Glad that English has kept its heathen status.

Look, right now I'm feeling dispirited. Alberta is using the same legal bullsh*t against trans kids as Saskatchewan (while the previous case goes to the supreme court). Our students are using AI for every assignment. My city had a Grey Cup parade, but we can't sustain a bookstore. It's tiring.

Overheard a male student say: "If it was my body, I'd be pro-choice. But if it's someone else, I'm pro-life." It was like staring into the soul of a young conservative. They never grow up. They're still the same chaotic selfish **holes they were as teenagers. Just choosing power where they find it.
