Thanks Ishan and Vishva for commenting on our work regarding NINJ1's role of weakening the plasma membrane for rupture under mechanical stress. We feel blessed and grateful for the support of fellow scientists in the community.

Love Loren's home brew! His passion is unparalleled. He coauthored a paper in the prestigious journal Cell on domestication and divergence of yeast, a very interesting read! www.cell.com/fulltext/S00...

Excited to reunite with former benchmates at International Ion Channel Conference. Apologize for the severely jet lagged faces, but at least we remembered the golden rule of @ardemp.bskyverified.social lab regarding conferences: “No badges outside the venues”. We think Ardem will be proud.

Excited to share our latest story in Nature. We developed a high-throughput cellular stretch system to look for genes regulating membrane rupture under tension, and found an amazing small protein called NINJ1 that weakens the membrane for rupture! H/T to Zozo, my 10-y.o. for her artist's impression😃

As a researcher working on mechanotransduction, celebration of May the 4th is obligatory.
Happy 2nd Annual International Mechanotransduction Day!
May the 4th be with you.

Woke up to the whirling sound of helicopters, went to the balcony to see what’s going on and was treated with amazing skyline view, the calm pearl river and ongoing Guangzhou marathon. A crisp morning like this is hard to come by.

Now that’s some serious thrust…
Speechless!
“In a matter of microseconds, the fruit breaks from the stem, giving the pressurized fluid and seeds inside an exit. As the goo and seeds fly from where the fruit had been connected to the stem, the pressure inside the fruit decreases, slowing the speed of launch.“ #mechanobiology
This high-speed video of squirting cucumbers’ seed dispersal helped researchers figure out exactly how they achieve this explosive feat.

I had the privilege to witness this groundbreaking discovery six months after I joined the Patapoutian lab. I remember asking Bertrand "What is it?" and he replied "FAM38A". I knew it was a big deal at the time, but little did I know that this would become one of biggest discoveries in biology.
15-year anniversary of discovering PIEZO1 today! Bertrand Coste, then a postdoc in my lab, was knocking down potential mechanosensory ion channels in Neuro2a cells. Candidate 72 yielded a result. Bertrand came into my office and said: ‘I got it!’ — November 13, 2009. A great memory!🧪🧠
