I have been given my first actual work task since 2026 started.
I have done this task many, many times before.

I can't do it. I can't focus on it more than 10 minutes at a time. I'll be fighting with it for another 2-3 hours, not because it's hard, but because I cannot brain. At all. 🫂

And it only took 2 hours.
I did not move the car to get the snow underneath. Should have. Didn't. Will likely regret this later. But I was fully, 100% out of steam, and the idea of taking the cover off to move the car was more than I had left in me.
My covered car, on my driveway, with just enough shoveling done around it to allow you to get in and out and drive away. I did not shovel the shared driveway neighbor out. He came out while I was out there, hopped into someone else's car, and left. He is half my age. Shovel your own ass out. I usually do it, because I have the power shovel, but it's useless on this much snow, so it was all the old fashioned way. My covered car, on my driveway, with just enough shoveling done around it to allow you to get in and out and drive away. The walkway neighbor was out shoveling, and was much more thorough than me. We met in the middle, on the walkway, then each worked on our own driveway.

Snow:
looks like about 7", based on my non-scientific, not-going-out-there, snow-on-the-banister gauge.
Predicted: anywhere between 6" & 15".
Picture out my back slider, same as yesterday (quoted in this post), except instead of maybe an inch of mostly-melted snow, there's about 7" of snow.

Snow expected during Snowpocalypse 2026:
I've seen anywhere between 6" - 18" predicted (expecting 6-10", but who knows?) Current winter storm warning reads 10 - 15"
Photo through my window of my deck and the grounds behind it. There are the melted remains of what was about 5" of snow on the ground, but is now closer to 1.5" The sun is setting behind hills and houses, a large high tension wire tower, and a small leafless tree.

Like I was an entirely different person.
Two grey tabby kittens snuggling together while sleeping and getting the tops of their heads scritched. This is how I found out the laminate floors in my brand new condo were not sealed. Eventually, she got too big to pull this off, & sent the whole thing flying. Water everywhere. I have shoveled.
Well. The SnowJoe power shovel shoveled; I just walked it.
I have removed the shipping oil from the table for the hydraulic press, and, possibly counterintuitively, coated the top in a different rust inhibitor spray.
Tomorrow, I may be able to move the press onto it.

There are a couple of settings, so you can set it to be gentler than mine. But I was more likely to ignore it when it was set on gentle.

Table built, though my back hates me for it. Not pulling off the wrapping because there's a layer of oil under them and... nope, I'm done.
So that's done.
Once clean, I can put the hydraulic press on it. And then we're on our fucking way.

Everything is awful and my country is collapsing, but my late night shoulder puppet purchase came and I love him, so at least there's that?
