I wrote about all the lived experiences and strange structures of modern society — many of which we take for granted — that were literally impossible for all previous generations of Homo sapiens. www.forkingpaths.co/p/we-are-dif...
We are different from all other humans in history
Countless experiences that have become routine for us are unprecedented in the history of our species. Here's why that matters.

Take the time to read this one. So much we all need to know and also beautiful words from a graduation speech given in 1964 by President Lyndon Johnson at the University of Michigan.

Here is one person’s real story about being declared dead by Social Security. The person happens to be Lois Lowry, beloved children’s book author. She was able to get it resolved but she had a lot of help. Help that others might not have.

It’s rare that a court opinion draws national attention, and even rarer when one does so with such eloquence and conviction. Yet that is what happened yesterday with Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson’s opinion in the Abrego García matter. I break it down, and lift it up, in today’s piece, linked below.

If you are not following Heather Cox Richardson, Jessica Yellin, Jay Kuo, and Jess Craven, you should. They are on various social media platforms.

I know that there are lots of scripts available to use from sources like 5 calls and Jessica Craven’s Chop Wood, Carry Water newsletter but for now I just wrote my own letter.

I understand that phone calls to our Senators and Representatives are more impactful than emails so I am hoping to gradually inch my way towards making calls. If you are emailing, texting, or calling your official representatives, please share your experiences with me.

Just finished writing email letters to my Senators to thank them for what they are doing and to ask them to do even more. As much as I hate to “get involved”, we just can’t sit this one out!

There are so many I could choose for this but I think right now I would say Family Family by Laurie Frankel. She really takes a different approach to adoption and the variety of ways that families can be created. Also, anything by Grant Snider - his latest is Poetry Comics. So good and relatable!
