Philosophy & lit professor, now disabled by migraine & ME/CFS. Cofounder, headsUPmigraine. Volunteer prison educator, Equal Justice Initiative. Progressive activist.

Half-time Mainer, half-time Canadian Maritimer
I had stage 1 breast cancer, which was happily little more than a scheduling annoyance, but I got a tote bag of goodies & endless snacks. I've been homebound with migraine disability for 20 years, & I haven't gotten as much as a salted peanut.

Onco definitely beats neuro in the Treat Division.

I got a PAC ad for Collins in the mail, which also quotes Mills saying she appreciates everything SC's done, leaving out the fact that this was about tariffs. The GOP went after Christie similarly for thanking Obama for his post-Hurricane support. Any bipartisan appreciation is used vs. candidates.

Bryan's run for office before, so maybe it'll happen again! (He was student body president at college.) EJI is a great organization. I'm proud to be one of its volunteers.

I'm 64 & realized only a few months ago that most people can "see" things even with their eyes closed. I have aphantasia & can't "picture" anything. I can describe what my family looks like, for example, but I can't form mental images of them. I have to rely on photos for memories.

Bryan Stevenson has always been a moral force in the universe. One of his clients, my beloved "brother" Joe Sullivan, has a very low IQ & is 1 of the wisest people I know. He says, "Mr. Bryan works for God." Even tho I'm not a believer, I agree with Joe!

Once again, I agree entirely. Always good to find kindred spirits online.

That's definitely the Old Port at night! Lovely work.

Bryan & I went to college together. He's been like that since he was a teenager. I love your photo, too!

Excellent point. I couldn't agree more.

You're right: Kamala was the most qualified non-incumbent to ever run for president because she'd served in senior positions in all 3 branches of government. It's insane that so many anti-Trumpers sat the election out, despite knowing the stakes.

Lovely photo!

What a lovely gift, both for your friend and her sister-in-law. I think that pattern would make me nervous as I knit it, but it blocks up beautifully!

I do! It's been bitter cold in ME, so I'm glad I enjoyed warm autumn days while we had them. Thanks for adding so much beauty to my scroll ...

The great Patti Smith's praise of the book reminds me of this terrific ad by Merriam-Webster. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvQn...

I agree. Good for Golden--and for all of us--that he picked up 20 Republicans to pass his bill today.

I didn't just graduate in a different century, I graduated in a different world.

Y?
December 10, 2025 at 9:40 PM
Exactly. In the '90s, I was going door-to-door w/ my then 9-yr-old stepson, getting out the vote to add sexual orientation to ME's Human Rights law. A woman said I should be ashamed of what I was teaching the child. He said, "What? That everyone should be treated equally?"

The lighting on this lovely. Thanks for sharing it.

I think Trumpism is racist to the core. Ta-Nehisi Coates argued this point masterfully in 2017: "The foundation of Donald Trump's presidency is the negation of Barack Obama's legacy." In his 2nd term, T is focused on negating Biden's legacy, as well. files.blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/wp-content/b...

Novels can fall into multiple genres, and some mix genres, like Atwood's Booker-prize-winning "The Blind Assassin," which has a science fiction story embedded in a realistic character-driven narrative. thebookerprizes.com/the-booker-l...
