Yeah and it wasn't too bad in Princess Precure--thats why I only say "gut reaction". A few times I rolled my eyes a bit at him just sort of being there despite being ultimately pretty inconsequential, but nothing so major as to leave a lasting negative impression.

Overall, my complaints are pretty minor and/or subjective, the finale was very solid, and there were a handful of animation pop-offs which made it a pretty decent watch.

It also probably does NOT help the princess thing that I started watching Versailles no Bara in the middle of this and it makes princesses seem like a pretty silly thing be striving for (though I of course do recognize part of the point is the freedom of having whatever dream you want).

And I think my gut response to things like this and Kanata as an addition in general will probably always be "did you even watch Utena??"

If I were to create a new category of favorites, "favorite yellow precures", Kirara is a real strong contender. The slightest aloofness goes a pretty long way for these casts and she just seemed to have a design/personality which made it easy for creators to make her particularly cute/cool/funny.

It does feel like sort of a quality over quantity season as I'm watching fewer than average, but I'm on-average more excited for the ones I am watching I think.

But Renako does deserve much of the credit for the show working like it does. Not that she is the most creative or deep character, but turns out, giving your main character some personality is a good thing! More anime should try it!

I'll also say that she benefited from an apparent bump upward in animation bandwidth compared to part 1 as she received the lion's share of fun character animation (especially in the first and 2nd-to-last specials)

And Kaho was revealed to be pretty fun actually. Personally I think she could have done without the whole split-personality-esque thing she had going on, but she still had a number of touching moments as well as hilarious ones.

My primary criticism of "it's too smiley" is maybe silly considering the title on this one, but I'm going to call it like I see it. I'll also note I think there were some questionable casting decisions made, but other than that this was reasonably enjoyable.
