I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

The government’s own data rebuts Trump Admin claims that wind and solar are driving up electricity prices, Politico reports share.google/RTIXPPQMXrTH...
“[T]he data say pretty much the opposite” of Trump & Secretary Wright’s claims.
Among the 22 states that drew higher-than-average shares of their power from wind and solar, 17 had below-average electricity prices in June, according to EIA data.

Deadly strikes on boats in the Caribbean under what legal authority? The White House never stated one, but it leaked.

Apparently the answer is a lawyer wrote down something that amounts to drugs are weapons so the president can kill whoever he says is moving drugs, without evidence or review.

This Administration's own guidance and Speaker Johnson's website both state, correctly, that federal workers will receive retroactive pay "as required by law."

The Trump Administration is just trying to frighten people as a tactic to avoid negotiating in good faith. Despicable.

Feel free to attribute the following to a former OMB General Counsel: The supposed "new legal analysis" is, to use a technical legal term, horseshit. What the law actually says is that when Congress enacts a law ending a lapse, furloughed employees get paid at the earliest date possible. Period.

Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

WHITEHOUSE: What happened to the $50k in cash that the FBI paid to Tom Homan in a paper bag?

BONDI: The investigation of Mr Homan was subjected to a full review by the FBI. They found no credible evidence of any wrongdoing

W: That was not my Q

B: You're welcome to discuss this with Director Patel

And here we go. I never wrote this article, and yet it is cited here.

And of course, it sounds so plausible, I seriously checked whether I had forgotten it, or the footnote was slightly wrong.

There’s an essay to be written about how maga patriotism is just shitty fandom. Anyone who follows sports knows fans like this, it’s always the ref’s fault, the other team doesn’t exist, there’s some plot/player/coach holding the team back otherwise they’d always win easy bsky.app/profile/atru...

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

“The idea that a choice my parents made has resulted into something like this has been really hard to understand and deal with.” Imagine coming to understand your parents made a deliberate choice not to protect you from preventable diseases. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...
Their parents never got them vaccinated. As young adults, they faced a choice.
Falling vaccination rates around the country mean more will grow up without protection from debilitating diseases until they are old enough to decide for themselves, typically at age 18.

Good by Sweden's Minister of Finance, who battle propaganda about Russian economy.
Main points:
* RU inflation about 20%
* Liquid part of RU welfare fund not enough for deficit
* Intl inst (IMF et al) and media should not use data from RU
* All RU data likely false.

Holy hell. DHS just openly stated that its agents use “reasonable suspicion” to make ARRESTS. This is blatantly unconstitutional. The Supreme Court is clear that you need probable cause to arrest someone, as opposed to stop them to ask them a question or two. This is huge b/c…

It is illegally conditioning Congressionally-mandated federal research funds on their elimination of foreign students to meet a made-up quota of 15%.

Fire erupts at major Yaroslavl oil refinery as governor rules out Ukrainian drone attack
A fire has broken out at the Yaroslavnefteorgsintez refinery (Novo-Yaroslavl Oil Refinery) in Yaroslavl, part of the Slavneft oil company and one of the country’s largest producers of petroleum products. Footage of the blaze on Wednesday morning, October 1, was published by the Telegram channel Astra and local outlet 76.ru. As 76.ru notes, a giant column of smoke is rising in the area of Moskovsky Prospekt in Yaroslavl. “At 6:28 a.m. local time, a report of a fire was received. Forces and equipment were dispatched according to the response schedule,” the outlet quoted the Emergencies Ministry as saying. A short time later, the Yaroslavl region branch of the ministry said 106 people and 36 units of equipment were working to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. Yaroslavl region Governor Mikhail Evraev confirmed the fire at the refinery. “Residents were worried this might have been the result of a hostile drone attack. But this is not related to that. No UAV attacks were recorded today. The fire is of a technological nature,” he said on Telegram . Russia’s Defense Ministry did not report any possible Ukrainian attack in Yaroslavl region. The ministry, which continues to wage a full-scale war against Ukraine, said it shot down 20 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight over the Belgorod and Rostov regions (eight each), Saratov (three) and Voronezh (one). According to the Yaroslavnefteorgsintez website, the refinery’s average throughput is about 15 million tons per year. The plant produces Euro-5 gasoline and diesel, aviation kerosene and jet fuel, a wide range of oils, bitumen, paraffin-wax products, aromatic hydrocarbons, liquefied gases and fuel oil, it says.
