That's a bold public relations strategy Cotton

Let's see if it pays off for them

Eh, there's only so much they can raise (legally) without disclosing it.

Yeah, they're not exactly rolling in money from Starlink launches. They need Starship for that (theoretically anyway).

It's literally the math SpaceX themselves described.

We know:
1. How much NASA already paid SpaceX for HLS ($2.7B - Outlayed)
2. The max amount NASA could pay SpaceX ($4.5B - Potential Award)
3. SpaceX said they are paying for 90% of the total development costs

That leaves NASA's portion at 10%.
October 30, 2025 at 11:59 PM
SpaceX self-funding 90% (0.9)
NASA HLS funding remaining 10% (0.1)
2.7 / 0.1 = 27
4.5 / 0.1 = 45

So what you're saying is that Starship development costs are somewhere in the range of US$27-45B?

Appointees & politicians telling you the US will do more and be leaders in human spaceflight with this budget are lying to you.

The update was to change the undocking procedure to do something slightly different when uncrewed. It still would have undocked just fine without the update.

No risk of bricking. Still capable of undocking without it. Uneducated people not understanding info from other uneducated people.
