AI Researcher, Photographer, Historian... and a little bit of this and that. Living in Aurora, IL, living large in the Fox Valley and an occasional visitor to our suburb to the east, Chicago, or is that Naperville... a once and future digital nomad.
If AI did not change your life this year, next year it will. The AI bubble bursting will just make life more interesting!

LLMs? Yesterday's news.
LRMs? Here now.
LAMs? Coming fast.

The question isn't keeping up. It's building something that survives the parade.

Most Chicagoland natives don't know: Aurora's founder arrived in 1834 to find a thriving Potawatomi village. The chief's lodge was engineered so well, a professional millwright marveled at it. (Multiple AIs were used in writing this fiction.)

Sound familiar?

The question isn't,

"Why is Trump attacking Venezuela?".

No, the real question is,

"Which one of Trump's narco buddies is he doing the favor for?"

oops

This is what happens when we try to reverse engineer alien tech!

Multi-Platform Reality

Real talk: I use multiple AIs for different things.

This week Google's ahead, so I'm exploring their ecosystem more deeply.

Which AIs are in your toolkit? Why?

A momentary lapse of reason in a house with a doberman mix puppy... In the old days LL Bean probably would have fixed my problem. Today, duct tape will fix anything 😕

Week 3: The question that's reshaping how we think about AI value: "Which AI is smartest?" vs "Which combination creates the intelligence my work actually needs?" One keeps you on the leaderboard treadmill. The other puts you ahead of it.

Here's a quick recap of our AI collaboration series:

Week 1: Your AI is making you faster at working wrong

Week 2: The problem isn't capability - it's memory. (link below) Current AI remembers what you said but forgets why it mattered

Worry about the erosion of truth today or the loss of human control over technology tomorrow? Is predictive medicine going to save my life next week, and is AI going to make work more enjoyable for the rest of my working days?

Questions, questions...

Thanksgiving dinner is just leftovers now, and getting out of bed this morning was a bit wobbly. Not the oldest at the table this year but getting closer.

Every year it's different, yet every time it's the same - just show up. It's about being present.

Just being in the room is the point.

This Thanksgiving, be grateful your family remembers why things matter, not just what was said. Your AI? Not so much. Week 2 of our relational AI discussion explores why dimensional memory beats data retrieval every time.

The looming divide: one sees AI as liberation, another sees loss of authenticity, autonomy erosion, and reduction of humans to optimization targets. A synthesis of selective AI augmentation, democratic governance, and recognition that some domains should remain primarily human offers a third path.

I sailed past 60 a long time ago. If I could talk to a younger version of myself, the first words out of my mouth would be that I didn't have to be confined by the narratives we are fed about aging.

Remember all the struggles with mindfulness and being present? Start that earlier! It matters.

Starting to really think about the final stages of restoring our 1894 Queen Anne - interior decorating.

Ugh, not my forte!

But I really want to nail "conversation spaces" and reading nooks.
