Age-verification laws are making it difficult for adult sites to get indexed, since the crawlers can’t always bypass AV.

Which results in lower indexing.

Which results in lower traffic.

Which results in censorship.

A fun thing about doing "age verification" on a region-by-region basis, which is the only way to successfully comply with any given state's AV law, is this: Bots, like the kind Google uses to make your site Googleable, also exist in physical space but, notably, don't have a face and cannot drive.

Yes! Feminist Press released the 2nd edition last year, almost a decade after the first release. Time flies! The new book includes about a dozen new writers with essays that catch us up to the current state of the industry, present day technology and challenges. Plus better editing and organization.

The fact they are suing Segpay, a payment processor, based on what a client of Segpay is alleged to have done? That's a shocking escalation, and I don't see how the law as written in any way justifies that.

It's okay to follow trans porn stars. It's okay to read articles about sex and relationships. What's not okay is the hypocrisy of backing forceful legislation that restricts what people, trans and otherwise, can do with their own bodies. That is shameful.

This is worth a read, although I’d argue that in the case of many AV laws passed in the US, the consequences are very much expected.

Once they drive most of the traffic to noncompliant porn sites that have zero content moderation, the GOP will use that to argue that all porn should be illegal.
