The bills will go into effect so long as he doesn't veto them. Having worked in state politics (and on veto campaigns), it's critical that he hears from people who support the legislation, as he's likely hearing from conservative activist groups demanding he stop grooming children.

Of course, it's not just porn he wants to ban — and here, obligatory reminder that porn has no legal definition, it's just a label placed on material politicians want to restrict — it's also any mention of trans people.

The bill would completely erase trans people online, equating them with porn.

We have reached the "ideas are dangerous" phase of censorship with zero irony at all.

In a press release, Texas Attorney General calls "transgenderism" a "corrupted ideology" that is "a cancer on our culture."

This is openly genocidal rhetoric about trans people from a sitting AG.

A press release dated October 7, 2025, with the headline: “Attorney General Ken Paxton Launches Undercover Operations to Infiltrate and Uproot Leftist Terror Cells in Texas After Increased Political Violence.” The statement claims rising left-wing violence, referencing the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and outlines Paxton’s directive for undercover investigations. Hackers were able to access copies of IDs, but also IP addresses and usernames/profiles associated with them.

A huge blow for anonymity online and a risk for marginalized communities and politically or legally disfavored groups.

From Discord release:

The data that may have been impacted was related to our customer service system. This may include:

• Name, Discord username, email and other contact details if provided to Discord customer support
• Limited billing information such as payment type, the last four digits of your credit card, and purchase history if associated with your account
• IP addresses
• Messages with our customer service agents
• Limited corporate data (training materials, internal presentations)
The unauthorized party also gained access to a small number of government-ID images (e.g., driver's license, passport) from users who had appealed an age determination. If your ID may have been accessed, that will be specified in the email you receive.

In order to access payment processing they actively review your site. If there’s pressure, either from banks or activists or governments (Texas’s SB20) they may decide to stop processing sites that sell possibly borderline content). It’s not about them flagging individual transactions.
