This is a terrible idea. Ignoring the median voter is how we've lowered the bar so much that Trump is considered a viable alternative.

Leftists love tariffs.

seeming evasive on a topic simply allows the other side to paint you as whatever they want very effectively. It's a bad political strategy.

And it doesn’t matter how rare these things are. There is a fundamental principle of fairness that is being violated here and it makes a mockery of the accomplishments of female athletes. Lia Thomas is a perfect example of it, and this is obvious from both her past record and her physique.
December 7, 2024 at 2:11 AM
If Lia Thomas example is representative of what generally happens, that means that the top 10 man in the world on any sport would instantly defeat the top 1 woman in the world if they decided to transition. The top woman would always be at mercy of dozens of second rate athletes’ gender identity.
December 7, 2024 at 2:04 AM
The only way you could call this nitpicking is if you give zero fucks about sports and fair competition. If your only lens are those of inclusivity, you’re not even close to understanding this issue. Why have women’s sports? Just compete based on testosterone levels. That’s where your logic leads.

The 1000 yard is not a contested event in 1 NCAA Swimming&Diving. It's only swum at certain meets and thus has less competitive rankings than 500 yard. There's a reason she didn't qualify for Men's National Championship. Lia went from being a good swimmer vs men to being a top swimmer vs women.

Passing a border security bill will predictably make the public more pro-immigrant, because of thermostatic public opinion. Again, this is extremely predictable. And it's a win for me too and for most voters, I want that bill to be passed into law on its own merits.
December 6, 2024 at 7:58 AM
I guess the difference is that one of my goals aligns with what moderate Republicans want. I want to expand legal immigration and legalize everyone that's not a criminal. But I also want to restrict illegal immigration. I want both, and I think the public agrees with me.
December 6, 2024 at 7:56 AM
okay, I think we should just agree to disagree on tactics.
December 6, 2024 at 7:50 AM
the correct compromise is to close asylum loopholes to make illegal immigration much harder, and to heavily expedite the legal process so we can take in a TON more people legally. And make everyone already here a citizen.
December 6, 2024 at 7:47 AM
Welfare for illegal immigrants is not a politically viable solution. Deporting people isn't something Dems are pushing, other than violent criminals. If border crossings are kept low, acute problem will sort itself out. Long term, amnesty + making legal immigration easier+faster should be the goal.
December 6, 2024 at 7:46 AM
part of the reason Trump gained so much in blue cities was that Greg Abbott let them experience the surge in border crossings by bussing these folks to blue cities like NYC and Chicago. Material reality hit us like a truck.
December 6, 2024 at 7:36 AM
yes, it became significantly worse and it objectively put a large pressure on the city budget.
December 6, 2024 at 7:34 AM
if you think there wasn't a border crisis you've just bought a different type of propaganda my friend. I saw first-hand in Chicago the tents of Venezuelan migrants everywhere and the pressure it was putting on the city budget.
December 6, 2024 at 7:30 AM
You don't need Dems to scream about it to notice your neighbor's grandma is being taken to a deportation camp. Mainstream journalism would cover these stories wall to wall, and most journalists are super pro-immigrant anyway.
December 6, 2024 at 7:26 AM
Deporting 15 million people will swing the pendulum enormously regardless of what Dems do. Big policy change is always met with backlash by the public. Thermostatic opinion is one of the most predictable things in politics.
December 6, 2024 at 7:24 AM
The standards needed to match the reality on the ground. If border crossings are surging, the president is supposed to do something about it. Biden's EO from 6 months ago should've been issued way sooner. Trump would've done it, and voters understand that.
December 6, 2024 at 7:21 AM
Let me go ahead and predict that if Trump tries the mass deportations he promised and starts putting people in camps, the pendulum will swing back left to all time highs even if Dems aren't as hysterical as they were before. The mainstream media will do it for them.
December 6, 2024 at 7:16 AM
If some version of the Lankford bill is passed in this administration, after a few years of low border crossings and public opinion moving back left, it may *finally* open the discussion again for a path to citizenship. Without border security that's just never gonna happen, it's a total pipe dream.
December 6, 2024 at 7:10 AM
And no, I don't feel threatened by Dems moving to the center on immigration. I think that's the right place to land to avoid wild pendulum swings and I think public attitudes towards immigrants will improve in the next four years.
December 6, 2024 at 7:08 AM
This guy was basically planning a coup in 2020 and we were...overreacting to his border security measures? Such a useless waste of political capital.
December 6, 2024 at 7:04 AM
I think Biden's asylum crackdown from 6 months ago was good on the merits. Dem rhetoric during the Trump years about stuff like Remain in Mexico was hysterical and it made the backlash worse. They should decide what they stand for on the merits instead of the polar opposite of whatever Trump does.
December 6, 2024 at 7:02 AM
I'm not trans, but I'm a latino immigrant. Nice try, though! I guess the next insult you can try is to call me a racist, transphobic, self-hating Trump voter.
December 6, 2024 at 6:53 AM
I'm not remarking on it because of what people call me personally. I've never felt the need to speak up about this stuff until now that it provably helped fascists gain power. I'm remarking on it because I've observed the behavior of trans activists over the past 8 years.
