I think much of it comes from fear, fear that someone is going to take what you have, or what you want to have. And thinking this now becomes a knee jerk reaction to hate or dehumanize the other. There are real situations of danger, but we as people seem to have more trouble making a separation.

So much to grieve, it is deeply heartbreaking.
