I often hear Americans & rich brits justify buying oversized, polluting vehicles by claiming they need them because they live in the "countryside".

I call bullshit, Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce, the Citroen C15⬇

The European Commission's proposal to provide funding for the Commercialisation of Open Source in Europe is a great thing both for Europe's digital autonomy and for Open Source sustainability.

It is the result of a multi-year educational and advocacy effort […]

Firstly, military bases: the US relies on its military bases in Europe for lots of its Operations in the Middle East, but also on Europe's ports.

The first and most obvious action Europe could take would be to make it clear to the Trump administration that […]

#trump's threats against #Greenland pose a significant risk for #europe, but there is no reason to despair.

The #eu still has numerous levers to reduce the likelihood of invasion. What matters is that we start pulling them as soon as possible.

US big tech: we have created a social media app that makes people hate foreigners.

Europeans: oh yeah? Well we've created an animatronic singing moose.

Americans: Does it sing well?

Europeans, 9 Glühwein's deep: absolutely not.

4️⃣ . Even if all of those were evil EU censorship, the EU would have censored fewer posts in 2 years than are posted on a day on X (96k vs 500m)

5️⃣ . The DSA actually gives citizens ways to fight back against censorship and shadow-bans by big tech. That is why MAGA hates it.
December 26, 2025 at 11:38 PM
So let's sum up:
1️⃣ Most moderation decisions are made by platforms for ToS violations, not illegal content.
2️⃣ The DSA resulted in 3mn moderation decisions in 2 years.
3️⃣ Of those, only 92k decisions (a meagre 0.0047% of total decisions), could even QUALIFY as censorship.🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:37 PM
Combined, these give EU citizens powerful tools to fight big tech censorship.

But of course, nobody from the MAGA gang will tell you that because Big Tech censorship is what is keeping them in power.

Perhaps, then, that is the real reason MAGA are so opposed to the DSA?🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:36 PM
Secondly, it empowers the EU to investigate recommender algorithms to fight shadow-banning and self-promotion, for instance by Space Karen.

Finally, it makes statistics on moderation decisions, including information on individual decisions, public.🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:36 PM
The #DSA also includes provisions to strengthen #freedomofspeech:

Firstly, citizens can legally contest moderation decisions and get them overturned (something that was impossible before).

Of the 10000 cases in the first year, 7500 were successfully overturned.
🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:36 PM
And “Negative Effects on civic discourse and elections” includes things like blatant disinformation and deepfakes of politicians around election periods.

There have only been 232 cases of moderation on these grounds in over 2 years.🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:29 PM
“Illegal/Harmful Speech” (79k) includes calling for genocide of an ethnic group/sexual orientation, Holocaust denial, or posting Nazi symbols (in some EU countries).

“Risk for public safety” (13k) includes things like telling people to eat tide pods or promotion of terrorism.
🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:27 PM
That just leaves 92k decisions, a meagre 0.0047% of the total, that could even QUALIFY as censorship by the EU and its member states.

For context: 500m posts are made on X EVERY DAY. Across all social media, due to the DSA, only 92k posts have been removed in over 2 years🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:27 PM
Only 0.02% of moderation decisions.

Of those 80% is violent content, this could include videos depicting death, rape etc. Much of this would also be illegal in the United States.

A further 7% is “Cyber Violence”, behaviour considered the digital equivalent of harassment.

🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:26 PM
If you also exclude child porn, & revenge porn, that leaves you with 950k.

750k excluding scams/malware and videos depicting self-harm.

500k excluding dangerous products, Data Protection violations, and animal abuse.

What's left? 🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:25 PM
As it turns out: mostly porn and piracy. In fact, when you exclude porn and copyright infringement, the number drops to 1.7m decisions.🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:24 PM
You see, the vast majority of moderation decisions (99.9%) relating to illegal content are made by platforms themselves on the grounds of violation of their terms and conditions, and not due to illegality itself.

That leaves about 3.2mn decisions (0.1%); so what are they ?🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:22 PM
About 2bn decisions remain, and it seems like the biggest category is "illegal or harmful speech", so is the EU really censoring 1.9bn posts a year?

It isn't that simple!🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:22 PM
Well, 1.6bn decisions (40%) are taken by platforms purely related to users breaking their Terms of Service. (not illegal content)

This includes speaking out about #palestine, something US big tech constantly censors Europeans for.

So what about with the other 2bn?🔽
December 26, 2025 at 11:22 PM
First question: What is the #DSA? It's a law that covers how big platforms deal with scams, spam, death threats, and more controversial things such as hate speech and online bullying.

It also requires the platforms to be transparent about moderation decisions & requests.

🔽
