Trying it over here. Disabled and queer. Word tinkerer (in schools) and word tinkerer (not in schools). Never not thinking about Plastic Man.

i hated death metal, thought regular Metal was good, and actively liked DCKO a lot!

yeah! i think that was a linewide rebrand rather than a micro-imprint, but good stuff!

honestly let's be real i'd cancel everything out right now for thirty more issues of that Steve Pugh Mark Russell Flintstones. Competent, moving single-issue storytelling! Who knew?

dc could and should have learned this way earlier with Wonder Comics and Young Animal, which before Absolute was the most interesting thing in comics for years

I really hope the lesson that Marvel takes here is that people will show up for a curated micro-line that takes big swings

I personally would love for them to take a crack at another version of the Ultimate Universe that *was* intended to run longer, but this was never going to be that setup. It kind of foundationally couldn't be, because it's built directly into a textual conversation with the mainline universe

we should read THE SPARROW together + you should read Nothing To See Here by Kevin "Spontaneous Combustion" Wilson + you should tell me what you're reading.

I started reading superhero comics in 2008 and I don't think there's been a time at either Marvel or DC where a given company is publishing like, only one great title, maybe two.

Looks like we're about to get there, for me at least.

The art is gorgeous, and there's already some decent emotional beats. Can easily see there being a couple deeply fun/terrifying/fuck-yeah moments per issue

I will grump when Batman inevitably dies or taps out and Absolute Batman becomes a combatant and this drags in my precious Absolute. But still!

Yes, some twists get delivered in a powerpoint-y way rather than being written, but it's so hard to create a big, focused premise that's still broad enough that other writers can easily riff on it in their own way.

'Hero on hero fighting tournament that someone has to win or universe dies!' is cool

shockingly, because it's a DC event comic in the year 2025, I....really liked DC KO #1! Easily best 'event comic' since, I dunno, Milk Wars?

with apologies for contributing to Bezos, favorite Gilligan's Island episode? (Or Columbo, as a backup?)

offer good for folks who purchased ages ago as well (and love the book)?

I don't think I've felt worse for a tribe in the ten or so seasons of SURVIVOR I've watched than I do for Kele just now, holy shit.

I kind of can’t believe this Bari Weiss quote is even real, and yet www.nytimes.com/2025/10/06/b...
“I know that there are some people in this room who don’t believe that my marriage should have been legal … and that’s ok. Because we’re all Americans who want lower taxes.”
