The flap on the back is attached by velcro dots, so it can be used with or without it, depending if the person feels their hand might be seen (I also have not glued those down yet, in case they don't want them on). 2/

Okay, final update on the frog puppet:

Right now the pupils aren't attached (the black & white circles), so I can move those to a different spot if he wants. Same with the tongue in case he wants it to look different. 1/

Frog puppet is getting there. Need to smooth out that yellow and do some stuff, but getting there!

Frog puppet update:

Got the body attached and working on arms and legs next.

I plan on adding a draping fabric to the back entrance to hide your hand better.

Here is his big 'old head. Differences between it and the yeti include length and number of slices. Yeti had five slices, making a pointier head, while this has six, making a more roundish shape. 2/2

I found a great cheat to make ears: cut off the end of a plastic spoon and cover it in fabric.

The eyes' outline is simply gluing a fabric strip. I always make it two layer so the edge is nice and clean; no visible cuts from scissors.

Alrighty, here is the puppet's face. Everything is taped on until I get the buyer's approval that this is what they want.

All that's left is the hair and claws.

Oops! Forgot to post this stage: sewing the fabric head pieces together and making the inner lining for the body.

Alternatively, I could make them both gloves but then he would have a deflated hand and it would be unusable if he wanted to attach an arm rod.
August 26, 2025 at 3:33 AM
Now, his picture doesn't show me the other hand of the puppet he found, but common sense says it needs to be the same size as the glove hand. This makes a very odd looking creature, but it would be even more odd if the other hand was just regular size.

So I'm kinda at a stopping point outside of the face because I need the buyer to confirm a few things. But basically this is it.

Body without arms (next pics: body with arms pinned but not attached).

Getting there! I forgot how long making puppets can take...

Here are the arms with glove (yes, they are long. Necessary for the glove bit). Also the head covering, before and after it's spray glued on.

Made an arm template and doing the fabric. The arm is huge but I will lose some width to sewing and there needs to be room for a human hand to fit.

It's been a while since I had to make a pattern, but this is how I was taught. Scrap fabric makes great for a rough first template before transferring it to posterboard. Don't forget to mark off where the front, back, and jaw are!

Foam pieces and mouth plates. Also, an example of my cost sheet. Doing it like this makes it easier to keep track, since I work on multiple projects at a time and I can pin it to the puppet.

Starting this yeti by request: based on the specs given, this puppet will have a more oval head than my normal ones (think Bert from Sesame Street). 1/2

Thirty-one traps modified with the hot knife, and one nasty burn with said hot knife.

Wouldn't be puppet making if I didn't horribly burn myself at least once!

Finally found Boo Berry! The Jim Henson Holy trinity of monster boxes is now complete.

Well, this was a fun surprise to walk out to at 3am.

Don't worry, the cats were eager to do their best to help me get him outside.

Finished. AGAIN, ugly prototype! The others will be much better now that I know what I'm doing.
