ICE and Border Patrol have maybe 50k active officers combined. The Nazi SS had about 250k in 1939.
The fact that I’m making serious comparisons to Nazi Germany highlights how bad things have gotten. And it also shows how much worse they could be. It’s important to keep both of those in mind at once.

Just a reminder that U.S. support for Ukraine sends a clear message that aggression and territorial violations will not be tolerated, deterring other potential aggressors worldwide. If the Trump administration fails to deliver aid, I would expect people to take to the streets. Slava Ukraini.

It is probably true that local politics define the contours of frustration with democracy country by country, but it fails to take into account the pernicious impact of technology in spreading hyper-pessimism on a global basis. Democracy has never been tested tested in this way before.#democracy
