Can someone please tell Kathy Hochul that the path to winning the NY governor's race is to run against Trump. Loudly.

No university that signs the compact will be a university, in the accepted sense, anymore. They will be mere Trump Institutes, teaching only what subjects Trump doesn't bar them from teaching -- and only until he does. Signing is an abdication of responsibility and an act of great moral cowardice.

He's more like "oh, my neighbors are worried about this? Thats hilarious let's do it more"
jmgabriel.bsky.social
Unfortunately that doesn't work in this situation because the Dad is the kind of guy who knows what he is doing and enjoys it

...who is frail and elderly is worried about walking *her* small dog; the risk is not so much about biting, but falls. And there seems to be no city mechanism to force the first neighbor to control his dog if there is no history of bite attacks

But, yeah, super interesting!
jmgabriel.bsky.social
Yeah, I've been vaguely interested in this for a while now but never really pursued thinking about it. Part of what interests me here is how we define "risk" in the conversation - one of our neighbors lets their medium sized dog run around off leash, with the result that another neighbor....

A very interesting set of comments pushing back on anti-Pitt bull sentiment (which I share, but am open to reconsidering). A lot of this makes intuitive sense to me - such as the claim that breed specific legislation is enforced in racially discriminatory ways; I def want to think about this more

I am a dog professional (>13 yrs experience in shelters & daycares, was a zookeeper prior to that; 32yrs total), though.

Pitts have a temperament test rating just second to Goldies, both of whom bite people far less than Huskies/Germans/Malinois. But they’re all outpaced by Chihuahuas & the like.

OK. This is all actually quite interesting to me, although from my perspective as a historian of medicine and public health rather than any particular investment in advocating for a position. Thanks for sharing your perspective

I'm personally not too concerned about bite riak from pugs and gray hounds and my guess is they bite less than cats scratch but whatever
jmgabriel.bsky.social
No I'm not. I'm conflating it with attacks that result in hospitalization, which I already said
jmgabriel.bsky.social
and I wouldn't call labs "innocuous". Labs are pretty high on the list, and of course all dogs can bite and are potentially dangerous
jmgabriel.bsky.social
I'd be interested to see the studies you are referring to. I'm not an expert on this and would be happy to be proven wrong, but the ones I've seen all have pitt bulls at the highest bite prevalence. This might be b/c I am looking ones that result in hospitalization though
jmgabriel.bsky.social
I feel like this conversation is unfair to certain chill dog breeds

Bite injuries are heavily weighted toward certain breeds, with pitt bulls by far causing the most deaths

all dogs are not the same, and some breeds should go away

I INVOKE MY RIGHTS TO SILENCE AND COUNSEL AND WILL NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS WITHOUT MY ATTORNEY PRESENT.

Then shut up until you have that attorney present. You cannot invoke your right to silence just by being silent. You have to say the words.

MAGA hero Jay Bhattacharya says that “political priorities may override the scoring system provided by outside experts appointed to hundreds of review panels”

This is absolutely disgusting & utterly scandalous. If your study doesn’t fit with Trump & Bhattacharya’s right wing ideology, it’s toast 👀
