Ran out of room above but I think mixing the stereo to mono for a mid, then adjusting the L/R channels separately could definitely yield something fascinating even if it might offend Mr. Blumlein.

Audacity does certain things VERY well. I still miss the old Wavelab which was my favorite and still unmatched audio editor.

I think applying M/S processing to a straight stereo effect is bound to produce something interesting. I've never done it but might have to try.

The flexibility of taking the matrixed audio, splitting it to dual mono, copying and inverting the side, etc… Now you’re mixing and eq’ing three channels… the results can be very satisfying.

Even using inexpensive mics as I do.

I used to have a bunch of them but, honestly, I only use Audacity for this one thing now. All of my music production and even the final editing/mastering/dithering for these live tapes will be via Logic.
