There are a lot of things I agree with in Bill Gates' new climate memo, but I think it sets up a false dichotomy between reducing emissions and helping the world's poorest. I've put together a piece with my thoughts over at TCB:
On the Gates climate memo
There is a lot of things I agree with in Bill Gates’ new memo on climate change, but I think it fundamentally sets up a false dichotomy.

In this new substack post I sketch how humanity slowly came to the realization that our future energy system will mainly run on solar and wind, and why this energy system will be using local semi-autonomous units we call holons.

Pls let me know what you think here!

How our thinking about an energy system running on solar and wind is evolving
First we discovered solar and wind could become abundant and cheap; now we are discovering we can store electricity, in the future we will discover how to create our energy system bottom-up

Love the idea of holons. This is a much more compelling and workable vision of local energy networks than the GLA’s ongoing fixation with heat networks. Distributing electrons locally is much easier than moving heat locally and solves many more problems.
