Seriously, the article mentions 11 people killed on or by ebikes and emotorcycles over the course of a few years. Cars kill over 40,000 people in the US each year, including people on ebikes.
Wait until they hear about cars.
But seriously - yes, agree, regulate e-bikes. But also give them space and infrastructure: protected bike lanes and designated and required parking spaces.

We rightly focus on richer countries' overconsumption & fossil fuel use as top drivers of planetary harm, but make it a taboo to also mention population: In African forests "carbon emissions are largely driven by fire..., shifting cultivation, agricultural burning & fuelwood burning" = subsistance.

Communities need used-book shops.

As the trends in our world are increasingly standardized and entrenched by "predictive" technologies that stifle innovation and reduce human actions into economic categories...

We need a full range of possibilities for readers and communities to explore and share.

Reminder: Russia can't afford to keep up this war.

Their reserves are dwindling and the free world minus the US has a GDP of roughly $25 trillion while Russia has 2 trillion.

With the lower oil price, the Ural discount, and the banking crisis looming, "the end is nigh" for Russia's aggression.

Yup, unless... we start to understand that a car was developed to carry a family of 5 over a highway while most city trips are with one person and at lower speeds.

On average, autonomous vehicles should be drastically smaller.

US defense is like US healthcare: pretty good if you can afford it, but hideously expensive per person compared to other countries.

I thought that in fighter jets, the ultimate expensive weapon, the US would continue to dominate. Not so, apparently.

Those who feel that shifting to an induction cooker is too complicated, costly, or even impossible (renters, for instance) might consider buying a portable hob. They start at less than £30 for a single one and should do the job well! Good for your health, the planet (and your cooking)!

I concluded 40 years ago that the soul and consciousness are concepts invented by people who want to feel special and imagine there must be an afterlife for them.

I don't see anything but a sliding scale between ppl and animals based on capacity for happiness and suffering.

As for AI...
This is narcissism masquerading as philosophy — the technophile elite are not recognizing a new soul in AI, they're falling in love with their creation, staring at their own reflection in a digital pool.

It is the ultimate in solipsism and has its roots in a pathological fear and denial of death.
