The strange case of Marjorie Taylor Greene. I view her as one of the most unhinged republicans in the US, but it's interesting to see she is increasingly bucking Trump and the Republican party. Maybe a warning not to put people in boxes too easily.

This study looks at multiple years with unfavorable weather conditions and shows this is probably best met with a little more overcapacity instead of more storage.

Depending on region, the overcapacity quickly reduces the storage factor needed.

100% RE research focuses on finding stable cost effective energy systems without fossil fuel or expensive nuclear. Usually mostly with solar and wind.

We have already learned a lot about managing variability cost effectively. But so far most studies just looked at one year.

New study looks into stabilizing 100% renewable energy systems over multiple bad weather years.

It concludes that the best approach is a little more overcapacity (e.g. 3.5% extra) as that is much cheaper than excess seasonal storage.

As the picture shows this is excluding EV and heat pump. So you would need more solar for heating in winter weeks.

Also excluded is AC (we don't need that a lot in the Netherlands) but that is no problem for solar.

Oh, and solar is in kWp and batteries in kWh.

As you can see, some countries that are over represented in the renewables world are actually extreme outliers. For most of the world it's much simpler. They don't need to worry about seasonal storage. Just some batteries and solar panels.

We just made this graph showing most people in the world could get by on just some solar panels and batteries.

The X axis is basically latitude, but we filled in how many people live between the equator and a certain latitude.
The Y axis shows the amount of solar and batteries needed

Verder zouden apparaten alleen versleuteld moeten communiceren met behulp van public private key infrastructure en een private key per apparaat die zelfs de fabrikant en bezitter niet weten.

Grote frustratie van mij is dat regelgever hier langzaam op acteert.

Klopt. Cybersecurity is absoluut een dingetje! Wil ik absoluut niet onder het tapijt vegen! Ik vind dat we absoluut af moeten van Chinese software (vaak met factory backdoor) die bepaald hoe onze apparaten reageren op het net.
Mijn pleidooi is open source software met goed versiemanagement.

Internet wordt niet onveiliger omdat er veel soorten PC's en mobiele telefoons zijn. Sowieso gaat het om de software die er op draait en dat zou open source en onafhankelijk van de hardware kunnen. Dat zou mijn pleidooi zijn. Maar batterijcellen en BMS zijn sowieso het probleem niet.

Consumenten die zelf apparaten aanschaffen. Is dat echt het einde van de wereld. Moet de overheid dan ook auto's, PC's, smartphones en warmtepompen gaan verstrekken? Misschien begrijp ik je verkeerd.

Vanuit het oude grid denken kan ik me dat goed voorstellen.

Maar voor mensen met een Internet achtergrond zoals ik is het niet meer dan vanzelfsprekend. Het belangrijkste verschil met internet is dat batterijen zoveel simpeler zijn dan communicatie apparaten.

Heb hier vaak discussies over. Wat mij betreft can je van een individuele thuisbatterijen vrij makkelijk een buurtbatterij maken en niet andersom, en ik denk dat thuisbatterijen en bedrijfsbatterijen plaatsen vaak minder gedoe is. Maar het hangt er helemaal vanaf hoe je de regelgeving inricht.
