This is just so, so grim.

This is all just completely out of the Elon Musk playbook and I’m so tired.

Launching a “let’s make the internet less toxic” campaign by spitting in the faces of your own users is some real dark shit.

Jay, this stinks. We all know this is a reference to your post mocking another user earlier and platform owners mocking users is terrible leadership.

Most of us came here because we want a site with good stewardship that feels safe. The CEO dunking on people who annoy them is the opposite of that.

And no “invisible hand of the free market” would somehow be better, nor fix this mess we are in.

Much like with gods, its invisibility lies in its non-existence, and its non-existence in the ease of manipulation of those that believe in it.

Capitalism may be dead, but libertarianism is braindead.

The replacement has been - to no surprise whatsoever - a neo-fascist dystopia, and not the anarcho-communist revolution the so-called left-wing accelerationists hoped for.

Or in most cases, pretended to hope for - it probably started out as a psyop anyway.

Or 4chan neckbeards larping as leftists.

Capitalism and that which enabled it - at least, in any traditional sense - is dead and very much buried at this point.

It is no longer even late stage, it has reached its inevitable terminal conclusion - it has gone to meet its maker, it has kicked the bucket - it’s a dead economic system.

Not that it was ever much dictated by those things to begin with, but there used to be at least a mere hint of correlation there.

Nowadays, it’s just “AI AI AI AI LOOK AT US WE MADE AI AI AI AI” (Google, looking at you).

And whilst LG’s OLED TVs are genuinely great *displays*, there’s more than a few reasons why the two I recently purchased to use as computer screens will never ever be connected to the internet.

This older one is about to get a dedicated box as well, and will then go permanently offline.

Shame on LG for going along with Google’s bullshit, but what do you expect from a company whose default audio setting (visible in the video clip) is called “AI Sound Pro”.

Which, quite ironically, is almost certainly just a dynamic EQ + compressor preset, and nowhere near machine learning-based.
