Academia.edu is changing its Terms and Conditions, and they're so outrageous (AI training; signing over ownership to them etc) I closed my account today.

After years of hard work, I am happy to announce that my book The Candidacy Calculation has been published by UTP. The book takes a nuanced view of traditional barriers to candidacy such as money & family as well as emerging ones such as online harassment & social media scandals. lnkd.in/gKDkMHqs

He wrote a great dissertation, gave an exemplary defence of it, and will be someone whose work on LGBTQ+ politics will be important for those in this field to follow. It was a pleasure to be his external examiner! Congratulations Dakota!

It’s not that they vote for these candidates - just that they have higher voting turnout and are more interested in the election in these districts. Suggests something about having diverse candidates may help counter democratic deline.

Thanks Michal! And thanks for organizing that workshop with Stuart. It was the best!

Queer voters without queer candidates in their districts turn out to vote at the same rate as other voters. But we find those WITH queer candidates are 12 points more likely to turn out even with individual & district level controls. #affinityeffects

Thanks! It has been a long process, primarily because we have so much on our plate, but it’s great to get this out.

Thrilled to have a new article in PRQ in time for the end of Pride month. doi.org/10.1177/1065... It demonstrates that having 2SLGBTQI+ candidates running in an electoral district is correlated to higher turnout among 2SLGBTQI+ voters - even in a relatively accepting place like 🇨🇦. #affinityeffects.
