After years of hard work, I am happy to announce that my book The Candidacy Calculation has been published by UTP. The book takes a nuanced view of traditional barriers to candidacy such as money & family as well as emerging ones such as online harassment & social media scandals. lnkd.in/gKDkMHqs

Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

Night night sweet dreamies

Imagine if you spoke to yourself with the same kindness you offer others.
You’re not a burden.
You’re not too much
You’re just tired, and that’s okay.

The voice we search for in others… is the one we need to become for ourselves

For over 60 years, Jane Goodall was a force for research about our precious planet—and climate change action to protect it—while breaking glass ceilings along the way.

I'll so miss her courage and commitment to help expand what we know about our world and preserve it for the generations to come.

1/ Just a joke isn't just a joke. It's a ploy to sanitize fascism. As researchers who study discourse, we see this often when bad actors are called out. It's their default refuge. They retreat to fight another day, hoping the denial will lull the masses into believing the danger is over.

A government shutdown is the forced cessation of most nonessential operations and services due to lack of funding.

These are operations that are not deemed necessary to protect national security, public health, public safety, or property.
Illustration explaining a government shutdown occurs when Congress and the president fail to approve a budget, causing nonessential services to stop.

Just out at JOP (www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/epdf/10....) : Why do so few working-class people hold office? It's not lack of interest. Noam Lupu and I ran 10 surveys in 8 countries and found no evidence of a social class gap in how often qualified people consider running.

I know everyone is consumed with other news, but this is a big fucking deal: The Trump administration says that IUDs and the Pill are actually abortions.

Here's what USAID told the NYT about the $10m in birth control they plan to destroy.
