An awesome story about #accessibility is making the rounds in musician circles these days: Victory Amps, a UK maker of bespoke guitar amps, has built a special model for guitarist Anthony Ferraro, who was born blind. That amp has #braille labels for all controls! (1/3)

The more posts I see complaining about the #UX mess that #Apple got itself into under Alan Dye (and, yup, I've posted plenty of those rants myself 🤷)️, the more I feel for all the talented folks at Apple who had to do the actual work behind the scenes. (1/7)

I recently got Andrew Smith's "Devil in the Stack," about the history, philosophy, and practice of #coding. That book happens to have one of the greatest dedications I've ever read anywhere:

"For those who would move slow and fix things." 😎

“Can I go check a pulse?”
“No! Back up. Now!”
“I’m a physician.”
“I don’t care.”

How can any human being have so little empathy with another human being who’s dying?

I — finally! — responded to a notification from the Be My Eyes app fast enough that I experienced my first call via that platform. The "caller" needed guidance for moving two mobile planters from the driveway into the garage.

Great commentary from Ian Betteridge from September 2024, and even more timely today than it was back then:

"Tech has become all Jobs and no Woz.

What is it that users hate so much about #ads? I really don’t get it… 🤦‍♂️

Just for once, I am simply delighted by a piece of current #Apple news! 😎 I can't think of a single manager at #Apple who has done more damage to Apple's #UX legacy than Dye has with #LiquidGlass.

The factual “accuracy” of an #AI chatbot — Claude.ai, in this case — beautifully demonstrated in one concise sentence.

Rule of thumb: Never trust an AI system when it comes to hard facts.

A quote about #affordances that I used in a #UX presentation _more than ten years ago_.

Whether you're a designer, a product stakeholder, or a user, ask yourself this question the next time you're stumped by a software application. If the answer is no, then that product's designers have failed you.

Today is World Usability Day. Sadly, the list of #WUD events seems to shrink each year. Then again, if this year's World Usability Day Austria is even half as well-run as last year's, this #UX-themed event is well worth your time. 😎

P.S.: This event is held in English, BTW.

Story from one of my best friends: “Just discussed a #UI with a coworker. There’s a group of three toggles. Activate one of them, and the other two are switched off. I said that needs to be a radio button group. His response? 'But this looks nicer!'"

The misery of today's #UX "pros” in a nutshell.

Big shout-out to the developers of @unclutterapp.bsky.social for adding #AppleScript support to their application. That #macOS #automation technology doesn't get the attention from Apple that it deserves. Which makes it even more noteworthy when devs care about it.

The team behind Gentler Streak is doing so much right in terms of #UX. It's one of the very few apps that I find actually "delightful."

It works well, is cute without being corny, and updates are thoughtful and well integrated.

A great benchmark to look to when designing your own mobile app!

Apps that offer directions often send their users to Google Maps for navigation.

As someone who prefers Apple Maps, I find that annoying. Especially since the user-friendlier solution is so simple: just offer a menu with relevant options, as seen in this mobile app by Enterprise.
