Exactly. I would imagine there is an accepted psychological phenomenon where the subject of abuse comes to hate not only the abuser, but also others who were perceived to "do nothing" to stop it. I think that's relevant here vis-a-vis the GOP and Dems.

Yep. Perception is reality. If enough voters remember hearing "oh, you need voter ID now to vote" and don't show up for whatever reason, it has its desired effect. It doesn't matter if it exists beyond 1-2 news cycles.

I feel like this point about the destructive power of assault weapons versus other guns is not made often enough. We all intuitively understand why this is dangerous. Why can't you buy hand grenades in Walmart? Because of their destructive power and their ability to deploy it in an instant.

I watch the behind-the-scenes NWSL VAR videos on the PRO's YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@PROrefs) and it's *crazy* how long VAR takes before even asking the center ref to take a look. Why isn't it the standard "yep, that looks questionable — better have the center ref take a look"?
