Bruce Banner was abused by his father as a kid which caused DID and created the Hulk alters. He was traumatised by seeing his father kill his mother in front of him. Having Bruce making jokes about his mom and asking a question which basically ignores his trauma is in very poor taste.

As much as I love Rowell's She-Hulk, the most recent issue shows again how most Marvel writers won't have picked up on every detail from Immortal Hulk. Ewing established that it was Joe who saved Jen. A brilliant retcon that fits the character perfectly. Probably destined to be ignored.

And for what it's worth these are mine. The games that I have the fondest memories of, the ones I personally had the most fun with in my entire life. I love these games.

Currently I'm taking a break from the big budget modern games and diving into Trails in the Sky SC on my Steam Deck.

It's a lovely and very charming PS1era style RPG but it looks way sharper and more detailed than PS1 games ever could. Really good writing too

Al Ewing's Immortal Hulk is in many ways a direct sequel to Peter David's legendary 12 year run.

From Incredible Hulk minus 1: Brian Banner is convicted for killing Bruce's mom and subsequently released. In a haunting sequence it becomes clear that Brian still wants to kill Bruce.

This is 12 years before Peter David introduced the DID angle and 7 years before Bill Mantlo wrote Bruce's abuse but it's interesting to see that Stern was was the first to have Hulk lash out in response to bad memories from Bruce's past that he also remembered.

From Incredible Hulk 226, 1978 by Roger Stern and Sal Buscema. The first time Hulk underwent a psychotherapy session by Doc Samson. We get some interesting insights into the mind of the jade giant.

It reminds me of Alex Ross' Immortal Hulk 15 cover, but I don't know if it was a direct inspiration.

I accidentally stumbled across this Ron Frenz commission while looking for calendars.

It's an INCREDIBLE work of art showcasing the Savage era and the Fixit era. You can keep finding new references the longer you look at it.

Also big Sam!

From Incredible Hulk 606. A beautiful moment where Bruce outsmarts and completely humiliates Doom.

Modok and Sam observe, and Sam couldn't be more proud of "his Bruce".

From issues 1 and 2. The Hulk in its earliest form was all about taking over the world and wiping out mankind. A far cry from the gentle misunderstood giant who just wanted to be left alone.

In hindsight he sounds a lot like Devil Hulk here.

Before Jeph Loeb introduced Red Hulk in 2008, Peter David wrote a "What if Ross had become the Hulk" story in 2004.

It's a great and tragic story by someone who actually knows these characters through and through. Gamma affects each person differently, leaving Ross in a power drunk daze.

"I could just let you lie there, not hurt you anymore. That would be the human thing to do"

Joe brings the pain to Redeemer in Incredible Hulk 345. Note the Devil Hulk-like evil smile in that upper right panel.

Si vous avez aimé Immortal Hulk, la meilleure expérience pour comprendre les références du lore : le run de Peter David, puis le run de Paul Jenkins, puis le run de Greg Pak. Amusez-vous!

Like many other fundamental changes to the Hulk, this speech change happened without any real explanation.

Another famous example is the change from gray to green between issues 1 and 2. No story explanation whatsoever (it was because of color printing issues btw)

Until Tales to Astonish 78 (1966) (left image ) Hulk spoke normally. Here's the first mention that it's "hard to think" for Hulk, but he still uses "I".

From issue 79 onwards (right) he refers to himself more often in the third person, talks about "smashing", and his speech becomes more childlike.

From Incredible Hulk 324: in the runup to the return of the gray Hulk (last seen in issue 1 in 1962) weird stuff started happening.

In a callback to issue 6, Bruce emerged from the Hulk's body trying kill them both. It looks horrifically disturbing in an Immortal Hulk kind of way.

My first New Year's resolution is to post in 2024 about the Ground Zero storyline by Peter David and why it made me a lifelong Sam "The Leader" Sterns fan.

And why it's one of the best Hulk stories full stop that should be mentioned alongside the likes of Planet Hulk.
