The republican party and its supporters have been very clear, for a very long time, that they're not really that concerned about what they say having any consistency of thought or basis in morality.

Dems already did this on immigration and got painted as open border communist globalists anyway. This simply does not work. Dems need to have a back bone and actually argue from their differences with conservatives rather than bending over and adopting conservative lite positions because of polls.
