Damaged retinal ganglion cells can lead to blindness. MCW’s Dr. Joel Miesfeld is conducting #research into the development of these cells to better identify ways to help them regenerate after damage. Learn more: www.mcw.edu/mcwknowledge...

Check out this 40x confocal image of a transgenic zebrafish eye showing UV (red) and blue cones (green), key for color vision. Zebrafish use UV vision for prey detection and navigation!

Our work on the TET enzymes in retinal development is out. We identified that rod fate is inhibited when DNA demethylation is prevented by removal of the TET enzymes. Interestingly, photoreceptor numbers are normal. We utilized WGBS and bACE-seq to profile the precise localization of 5mC and 5hmC,…

TET enzymes remove #DNAmethylation markers; @ismaelhdeznunez.bsky.social @clark-lab-retina.bsky.social &co show that these enzymes are required for #photoreceptor cells to initiate the genetic program to become rods instead of cones, & for maturation of the #retina @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/3UaVBfl
Left: The active DNA methylation cycle. (i) 5mC is added by DNMTs. (ii) The TET enzymes oxidize 5mC to 5hmC. (iii) 5hmC is converted to 5fC and 5caC by the TET enzymes, followed by conversion back to cytosine by TDG and the base-excision repair pathway. (iv) Alternatively, APOBEC converts 5mC to thymine, causing DNA mismatch. Right: H&E staining of an allelic series of TET conditional P21 mutants.

“Our results suggest that some axons regenerate along tracts of degenerating myelin debris. However, the topography of re-innervation is different after regeneration, suggesting that new axon tracts are created to restore functional vision.”

Not sure where the updated form would be located and if it’s different. This was done by our grants administrator but this is the method we used to list the study section preference.

I submitted mine through an assignment request form and not the cover letter. grants.nih.gov/grants/how-t... Same information is stated in the cover letter information, which is not always allowed. grants.nih.gov/grants/how-t... I hope this helps.
